Standards for Service

Two years ago setting of standards for services were discussed and I believe LocalCircles even shared with BIS. There were media articles on how there will be govt standards for after sales services.

Here we are, nothing. People buy laptops. Few days or months later laptop has issues, some feature functiona dont work. Company says we wont replace, despite knowing its a defective product.

Why in the world BIS Nd consumer affaira dont have a remedy for this situation.???

Can local circles please take this up!!? more

The Govt.of I India must have in its mind seriousness in protecting the interest of the CONSUMERS, whether they purchase from small shops, or big shop, or Malls/Departmental stores or even through e-commerce by on-line. The General Public must have confidence that they are protected from malpractices of the sellers or producers and the sellers must have fear complex that they will be punished if they sell duplicate/spurious products either knowingly or unknowingly. Unless strict laws are passed and rules are amended this will not happen. The Commercial Tax deptt, police and other State Food and other consumer product protection departments should make surprise checks and pull up the culprits. more
First of all our laws should be such that seller should have full respect for consumer and attend their problems. If he/she fails to attend then concerned Govt agencies should take action. Going to Consumer Court is quite tedious job and harressment to buyer. more
Dear Sri/ Ms. falguni Bannerjee, I think your suggestion regarding involving BIS in consumer matters appears novel and worth trying even though it may require deeper thought on the part of administrators, who can facilitate it. more
It seems Local Circle need to conduct a poll on 1. Quality of after sales service & support. 2. How many consumers really go to consumer court. 3. Can the jurisdiction and role of BIS be extended to receiving, screening the complaints and sending to Consumer court which may speed up the hearing because BIS is also involved. Other members may suggest for improvement in consumer affairs. more
The role of BIS is limited. Let the jurisdiction of BIS be defined. more
