Status of preparation for mosquit season

Last year both my parents had gotten dengue. What is the status of drain desilting and ensuring mosquito breeding sites are minimized, fogging prepration, other related works in different areas?

What is being done by mcds/ndmc thats different than last year so we are better protected? more

There are 3 things out here for the impending disaster which keeps repeating itself each year as I see it. And I am saying this as I have myself suffered from this the first year of my stay in Delhi 4 years back, when I got affected by dengue. 1) There is no systematic approach to fighting such menaces - the fogging team, the de-silting team, etc. are not actually making a big difference as the sweeping and others are often not working together. Let me explain - I have personally seen the sweeper in the morning gathering all the garbage, etc. and dumping it into the drain next to the road. Even when I have pointed it out to the person, he has claimed that it doesn't matter. What is the point of de-silting if the cleaning team is just going to re-fill it?? There has to be a quality control OR inspection team that does a good job of ensuring the work is done and stays done. 2) The general public and residents too are a HUGE factor. In most cases, the drains are dumped with the rubble from masonry repair work and other such items like used tyres, rubbish, etc. One general thing that I have noticed in Delhi is the "Pandara / Pandals" which crop up for distributing free food and drinks and then in a few hours have contributed to kilos of trash from the used styrofoam plates, plastic cups, etc. These too end up in most cases in drains clogging up the drainage system. We need to realize and stop such abuse. There could be SOS numbers or some local ward level or area level numbers which residents can dial into and call them for the garbage disposal and ensure that there is compliance in effective waste management. In fact, most residential localities do have this system already in place. Such individuals should be further motivated and compensated to be available for at least half of the day, if not always. I am sure, if there is enough thought put into it, there can be effective span of control and working that can be evolved. 3) The third is that departments need to engage and plan much in advance to get cracking on the above. Usually the approach is the "bucket under the dripping ceiling" - so if there is a leaking ceiling due to rain, etc. the measure taken is that a bucket or vessel is kept under it to collect the water. The issue is addressed BUT only partly. The best approach is to get the leakage repaired and fix the ceiling. We need to ensure that there is a holistic and complete redressal of the issue, rather than a quick-fix approach. more
Nothing is being Done Now Unfortunately. We have to demand it from newly elected MCD Ward Members now the Strict Measures to Prevent Dengue and Chicken Gunia. more
Very good point taken up. The MCD gets fund for this WHY they don't do and no one checks them. If there is a dengue case because of uncleanness MCD should be accountable, more so the lower staff and then the higher up supervisors/ officers for not checking. more
We have to be mentally ready to welcome Dengue & other guests. Delhi is not ready to physically stop them Best regards, Vinay Kapoor, Associate, B-2/126, Safdarjung Enclave, Delhi.
