Still after 75 years trains are unhygienic.

Today my wife and daughter Indore New Delhi Intercity Express, PNR 8161237609, and even in the first class AC coupe there were rats! Rats tell the entire story about hygiene! Toilets were filthy. In spite of requests for cleaning the toilet, it was left dirty. Passengers from general classes and other coaches were using the toilet! Least the staff could do would be to clean the toilet. No food provided, hence they had bought eatables before boarding, Only a single thin blanket being provided, and when asked for more, the housekeeping attendant simply refused! For the costliest possible train journey lasting 13 hours this behavious unacceptable. Passenger fare considered low. Consider that Tatkal fares even higher. In that too now there is a premium tatkal. Where do the funds go! 5 years back similar situation. This when India readying herself for the bullet train! Yes, water bottles provided! Get the basics right at least! If the railways must, make hygiene available at an extra charge. Adopt the concept from hospitality industry where such services get charged for. Otherwise the tag "Cls: 1A" remains deceptive. more

K C Rana you are correct. All the things you listed are the socialist policies. The hiring process is also not corrected. We need to hire people who are qualified for a particular job and provide training and guidelines. more
You should lodge formal complaint with RM. Unless passengers protest, nothing will improve. more
India needs serious HR overhaul. That is the only to save the Indian railways and other government run entities. All the socialist policies of past have done is give too much to workers without accountability. All the government run things should be semiprivate and you will see the change. more
Unionized work culture, non accountability and too much job security are the root cases. more
Suggest you file a complaint in Consumer Court for deficiency of service against Railways and demand compensation for mental agony and physical suffering due to dirty toilet. You may make Minister of Railways also a Respondent. You will be doing public service by filing the complaint. more
Yes, TTE doubles up as the overall caretaker, should taken to task, for duty lapse. Otherwise, mails or tweets just circulating. Twitter directed attention from all that matter towards made itenerant travellers having similar experience too notice, and at least made them keep a watch among the railways authorities who tagged the appropriate authorities while replying, however that was all that happened. System being such, appears most are coopted into the inefficiency. more
