Stops Needed in Trains

I appreciate what Aditi Mitra is trying to do in terms of removing redundant stops. Equally important are stops that are deserving and logical and should be made on certain trains.

Can we also put together a list of stops by train that must be considered by Railways Ministry.

Obviously we must restrain ourselves and not add inefficiency by adding a ton of stops for personal interest but those logical should be listed.

Please suggest. more

The purpose of introducing the train and the region which it is planned to be serviced are important. It is a compulsion to have the trains stopped in that region at most stations. There is a footprint for all trains. Stations with maximum footprint for mail/express train stopping at the station should be the criteria for stoppages. To reduce congestion at destination stations trains should be compulsory stopped at immediate preceding major stations. more
It is a routine affair to increase stops and slow down trains for general public as well as politicians. These demands are generally met through Consultative Committees existing at almost every nook and corner of the country. The essential requirement for even suggesting a stop by any one should be his or her guarantee for minimum revenue over a reasonable period of time. If that person is not ready to give a guarantee, then no such suggestion should be entertained. If guarantee fails, 20% of the shortfall shall be recovered from the person suggesting the stop. This should be in the form of bank guarantee. Every one must understand that Railway transportation (for that matter any transportation) is a business and the goose that lays the golden egg shall not be killed. more
Once the stoppage is decided during the start of the New train , it must not be increased!. Any train is passing through so many big and small towns , the Railways can not please all by putting additional stoppages for each of them!! It disturbs journey, speed restrictions, unnecessary crowd because of the entry of the short tripped passengers , season ticket holders etc. The Mumbai - Howrah Geetanjali Express when started in the year 1978 , it used to have only 6 stoppages and now it is having as high as 20 stoppages!! More are expected to increase. The journey in that super fast train has become horrible now!! Hence start locals, semi fast, Fast trains at every place so that the people can catch the required train from the nearest station. more
We have to consider 2 aspects when increasing restricting the stops for the trains . More stops for the trains is definitely beneficial to the passenger. ;there are also passengers who travel long distances , the railways caters to. Their need to cut the travel time has to be taken into consideration . So only if there is patronage from the stations that is justifiable for the trains to be stopped can be included and nit just M.P. is from that place or nearby. There have been several stops introduced that have proved beneficial to the Passenger . A good example is Morappur , that caters to the Dharmapuri passengers to alight . Similarly the Railways has to consider the stops before the Terminus stations like Chennai Central, Bangalore city . Trains approaching chennai central fron the west [that is Arakonam and Thiruvallur ]goes through thickly populated residential ares in the western sub urbs . Yet there is only one stop at Perambur for few trains . When it stops , we see about 35 to 40 pasengers alight there. THAT MANY PASSENGERS SAVE THEIR TIME AND CONVEYANCE COST . THAT MUCH OF CROWD IS AVOIDED IN CENTRAL STATION. THAT MUCH OF FUEL IS SAVED AND POLLUTION AVOIDED. IF ONE MORE STOP BEFOR PERAMBUR IS ADDED LIKE IN VILLIVAKKAM OR AMBATTUR MORE RESIDENTS FRO THE WESTERN SUBURBS WILL BE BENEFITED AND THAT MUCH TRAFFIC POLLUTION REDUCED . SAME IS TRUE IN THE CASE OF BENGALURU FOR TRAINS COMING FROM CHENNNAI. RIGHT FROM WHITEFIELD , K.R.PURAM , BANGALORE EAST AND CANTONMENT PASSENGERS WILL ALIGHT SO THAT WHEN THE TRAIN REACHES CITY THERE WILL BE HARDLY 25 % PASSENGERS . THE BENEFITS NOT ONLY THE PASSENGERS , THE CITY TRAFFIC AND ATMOSPHERE WILL GET . more
People from small stations also needs connectivity therefore there is a balance required in this approach. Some trains should be fast with limited stops and some trains should stop at more stations to cater for people from small stations. Also connectivity through local trains should be made available. more
