Storing food in Refrigerators for long durations

Most people like us atleast, professionals have little knowledge of home science principals and we keep storing food in refrigerator and consuming it for many days at times.

Does fssai have any guidelines for no. of days food cooked is safe to store in refrigerator and consume.

Would appreciate if members also can share feedback. more

Dear All, FSSAI has developed one book which is named as Pink Book under one of its initiative i.e.SNF@home. This book has all the required information to ensure safe and nutritious food at home. You may download this book at below mentioned link - http://home.snfportal.in/HTML/assets/img/activities/PinkBook.pdf Hope you find this book useful. Please share your feedback. more
You can see first that it is a e-book. If not you will have to scan the book and send it through mail id on local circle/individual. more
It all depends on the fridge you have and where you live. If the fridge is good and new and has a large freezer, you can keep home cooked food for a week and it will be good. Please place it in an airtight box (metal and not plastic) after cooling the food. If you stay in a place like Pune where there is a powercut every other hour, then you are in a mess because you really can't store food for long. Otherwise if you wish to store food in the fridge, maximum of two to three days is the most you can keep it. But you should not keep rice more than a day as it turns carcinogenic. more
You may mail it at pcchatur@gmail.com more
