Given the recent protests and incidents in Mandsaur and earlier Saharanpur, clearly there is a need for deeper engagement between police and citizenry.
This engagement should provide insights to police about problems in real time rather than things worsening to the extent they did.

Public relation building in the present scenario is a ardorous task as the police image has taken a severe beating in the last 70 years.They are perceived as non dependable and hence many do not cultivate a friendship with law enforcers .But for the societies sake they can try to approach with out uniforms , change body language ,look more civilian , civilised and genuine ly helpful in emergencies and un biased and apolitical. The nexus with politicians, power mangers ,money bags have given a feeling 5hat they are for no body but for money , power . If only a nucleus police station can prove in a localised segment that it is really for society by its actions , deeds for one year and with out 100% corruption then the news can be dissipated to others as a result of pilot study towards police friendly chAnge. Then civilians will cooperate slowly . Untill then with this image people are suspicious to come along. more

I had seen Policing with Society attachment even in 1980s . The power restriction in IAS increased the involvement of IPS and thence there has been a total diversification in Citizen life and , the Law and Order which in deed failed . The Analysis shows that the Political domination over Practical Governance along made all the Sectors diluted and diversified since after 95 from which the Business Sector made the TOP DOMINATING OF ALL . The Business Ethics and Norms are to be Codified and Regulated even now for a better Society and Nation to Develop . more

Suggested solutions ( Will apply only in the case of un-biased SHO / Senior police officers ) 1 SHO should know area of police station well 2 There should be large size map of the area mounted on a board at police station 3 There should be confidential map in the file showing sensitive area. A area could be sensitive for clashes due to religious, political or caste differences. This should known to police at various levels. 4 Police heads must have contact details of all religious leaders, political netas, social or other influential leaders of the society. 5 SHO should conduct periodical meetings with various groups. 6 A successful SHO has to have an Informers net work to pre-warm him of the brooding touble in his area or city. 7 Indian police does not maintain good rapport with common citizen. THIS NEEDS ATTENTION. 8 The strong groups of senior citizen can be very useful to police in maintaining law & order. more
