Surge Pricing on advance booking Unfair Trade Practice
Disposing of the complaint filed by Raman Kumar Soni, a resident of Phase 3B2, Mohali, the forum said: “The practice of charging excess fare than that of actual contracted fare at the time of advance booking, is unfair trade practice, which needs be deprecated.”
When Uber claimed it had already refunded around Rs 84, the forum ruled that it amounted to the firm’s admittance to having charged extra and said: “To keep a check on such unruly service providers, who commit breach of assurances, promises and commitments at the nick of time, they are required to be dealt with a heavy hand.

When a booking is done a price for the trip is displayed. And it is not a fixed amount. It is given as a range like 250-350. So we expect to pay a minimum of 250 and a maximum of 350. I book because I am comfortable with this price.
However when I take the trip, it ends up being much more than that.
Recently I booked the cab to airport and the charges were shown as 345-462, which is a wide range to start with. However, for the actual trip ended up paying 929 for the trip. Earlier they had the option of contesting this, but now the app does not allow to contest and the customer care email sends an auto response. So we have no recourse for redress.
Uber is most certainly taking people for a ride (no pun intended).
Time for this unfair practice to stop. more
