Swacha Bharat Mission

The population explosion and urbanization is causing the urban areas of India lot of menaces. It has gone beyond the capabilities of local bodies. The present practice of mixing the entire waste and just throwing is to be stopped. The solution is to segregate the waste at source itself and store in the generation points say houses, commercial establishments. Then give the segregated waste to recyclers, plastic, metal, paper, etc. wet kitchen waste may be used for biogas generation, or home composting of different types. The compost can be used as manure. In certain cases house hold level management may not be possible. In such cases, eg. high rise buildings, apartments, etc. joint action is required. Even though it all works; in order to support these systems the urban local body level common facilities may be planned and executed. In such facilities large compost plants, waste to energy plants or even units using plasma technique and small landfills also may be built.
Always keep in mind the ideas to reduce, recycle, or reuse components of the waste. more

Well said Sri Jayakrishnan . In-spite of all , the Municipalities will not be helped to collect their over due taxes ; And, their governments do not assist lifting of wastes from houses/shops. EVERY THING IS RUNNING ON PROPAGATE & LEAVE OFF. more
Just wait till next Gandhi Jayanti you can find all celebrities coming out broom in hand to clean up India. more
There is another advertisement wherein a Bollywood celebrity requesting villagers to build their own toilets and not to defecate in the open. They defecate in the open because they do not have money to built a toilet with septic tank. The Government could utilize the money paid to celebrities for advertisement on building toilets in villages for use of poor villagers. more
There was a South Indian film celebrity telling a person throwing mineral water bottle on road not to do it. But doesn't say where to dispose it. With the amount paid to the celebrity for this advertisement, a few waste bins could be installed. more
Just clearing the garbage will not help. There are cases where Municipalities collect garbage and deposit it in villages. When villagers object the garbage come back to the place they were collected. The need of the day is waste disposal plant in the jurisdiction of each Corporation/Municipality/Panchayath. Waste will include plastic, paper, food, vegetable, animal waste as well as human waste. All these can be recycled profitably. The local self governing bodies can run it themselves or give it to private concerns. All these are better said than done. more
