Swachh Bharat - Enabling Ideas

As the Swachh Bharat campaign reflects on learnings of the last 8 months, citizens can and must play an enabling role in addition to cleanliness drives, keeping neighbourhood/workplace clean.

Here is a sample idea:
Bin Management: Many times we find that public area dustbins are overflowing or at times though the bin has space still garbage is thrown outside the bin.

Solution:
Citizens can form teams to time study the bin pattern, the user behaviour and develop process/solutions that can be implemented working with the local municipal cleaning staff. This will not only result in public behavioural change but will directly impact cleanliness level in their own markets/colony.

Based on your inputs, we request you to share more ideas where citizens can play a role. If you like the bin management idea, you are welcome to take it and implement it. Do share learnings with us!

The citizens and the Circle members are helpless in this regard until the municipalities and the government are serious and sincere for a clean India. Dustbins are still rare items to find in public places. Where ever these are installed and the wastes are dumped, these are not lifted regularly by the cleaning staff of the municipalities and that is why the bins are overflown and the wastes are scattered all over making the entire area dirty and filth smelling but concerned people getting handsome salaries for the work do not bother and no one make the accountable. The municipalities use open bodied trucks for uplifting the garbage & wastes which drop these garbage on their entire path ways to the final dumping places making the roads dirty filth smelling. The municipalities get & spend huge money every year for waste management but the condition continue to remain the same and there is no relief to the citizens. Probably the money is being 'bandar bat' among the municipal employees & officials, concerned government officials, the self-acclaimed leaders and so on and so forth. Unless the governments are not sincere for a clean India and continue to remain silent spectators of the misdoings of the municipal authorities & employees, expecting the citizens to make efforts for success of the Prime minister's Mission for a clean India would be over ambitious. more
I come from North Bangalore. Even after all the efforts on Swacchh Bharat Missions, there is no improvement in the disposal of waster. In many places one can see heeps of waster scattered around and to make it worse the stray dogs spread it further on the roads. There was a suggestion in the group that the local authorities should provide bins in the residential areas so that residents can place the waste in it. But this is not yet implemented. The Commissioner and Administrator of Bangalore Corporation visits selected places and on that day these areas are very clean and back to square one on the next day. The Corporation does not give a permanent solutions to this problem. It is high time that the Ministry of Urban Affiars strictly implement the Swacchh Bharat Mission and any erring officials of the local bodies should be punished and penalized. more
Why can't the Court file a suo moto case against the Chief Minister and the concerned officials who promise something and fail every time. Our CM had promised that all potholes in the City would be filled by June 7. Even in the areas of our Ex Dy CM of BJP regime, so many potholes still exist and the ones that are filled in other areas are with JUST, STONES, CEMENT COLOURED MUD THAT HAS ALREADY ERODED AND CREATED SOME MORE PROBLEMS FOR THE COMMUTERS WHO HAVE TO HANDLE 2 THINGS NOW - POTHOLES AND THE SCATTERED STONES AND CEMENT COLOURED MUD. GOD SAVE US FROM THESE UNSCRUPULOUS and DON'T CARE ATTITUDE PEOPLE IN POWER. more
