Collection transportation and dumping of garbage on daily basis completes the process. There are many week links , transporters want to make quick bucks in collusion with politicians they take short cuts. The main issue is space for dumping of garbage , or any other viable solution for disposal unless these are sorted out the efforts are in complete.
In places like Mumbai there is no space left for construction of sewage treatment plant so the sea is getting polluted beyond any ones imagination. Its a big nexus between Builders politicians and baboos no one can change or improve the situation. Statistics can be manipulated it does not give true picture and also statistics is a perception.
In Mumbai on one side deonar and other dumping yards overflowing with filth on the other side it is sea in which untreated sewage water is flowing day in and day out still if the achievement is so high then god only can save more

Incineration is one option that should be explored. Also, segregation of glass, cans, plastic, cloth and such like waste can be done prior to incineration. These segregated materials should be re-cycled. The technology must be available, the economics need to be studied. more

Garbage disposal is one thing.Untreated Industrial waste flowing to river is one of the bigger concern .Kalyan and Ulhasnagar has this Ulhas river which is polluted since years.Even after filing petition with NGT the river still stays polluted.The sad thing is government only act after casualty or either when common man comes on street.While this is the duty of Municipality to keep check on this issues and prevent it at first place. more
