problems of stray animals, dogs, cows, donkeys, monkeys etc
in big and small cities, stray animals roam around freely causing accidents and making the place dirty.if we have to boost tourism and safeguard travelling public, something needs to be done on this issue.bigger animals have owners who should be fined heavily for allowing the animals to loiter.small animals need some serious thought.there are nearly one lakh stray dogs in Mumbai.any ideas? more

I have always thought that the police dept should round up all the stray dogs and train some of the them for Police duties-like drug detection, doing the rounds with the duty havaldar to catch criminal element..etc. Some other dogs could also be trained for other purposes, such as guiding the blind through the crowded streets..etc. I know that such dogs are available for the blind in foreign countries, and they are so well trained that, even the Mass Transit Railway system and other public transportation allow these animals to accompany their masters. People give way to such duos. Why can't we also evolve such dog training centers? .This could even be a profitable business. Of Course these schemes could be evolved for reasonably healthy animals, for the sick and infirm, the best option is to put them to sleep For the stray cattle, there is only one place to go,viz Panjarapole. More such cattle facility should be started to house unclaimed stray cattle, preferably on the outskirts of the city. But my experience tells me that many of these cattles have a owner, who lets his cattle loose on the street, so that they can grace on garbage, eating all sorts of rubbish, only because they cannot afford to feed them. Such cattle should also be sent to such centres, after they are forfeited from its legal owners.Cattle facilities could also be viable proposals if we look at maintaining them as dairy farm. more
In continuation of my views above : 4. Put to sleep at least the sick stray dogs. I do not think animal lovers will have any objections as this practice is followed by the citizens when their pet becomes old/sick and they cannot look after them. more
Completely endorse the view. The problems caused by stray dogs in city like Mumbai are posing a serious health hazard. There are increasing number of cases every year of dog bites. Dogs also make the area dirty by scavenging for food in road side garbage bins and also defecating/urinating.There are many dogs who are visibly sick and pose serious threat to pedestrians. People feed these dogs as humanitarian act which increases their number. Municipalities have failed to control/eliminate the problem as there is ban on their killing and objections raised by animal activists. The animal activists do not appreciate the problem caused to citizens by the stray animals especially dogs. They do not give any solution also. Municipality in Mumbai is supposed to be sterilizing these animals to control their population and over long...long period reduce their number to zero. May take 100 years? Their efforts are not bearing any fruits as the situation on the ground is sasme. Some suggestions : 1. Catch and quarantine outside city limits. 2. Create dog shelters in areas to be manned by animal lovers/activiste. 3. continue the sterilization drive with more aggression to target reducing the number of stray dogs on the road to zero by the year 2040!! more
