T N government's finance in intensive care unit

Tamil Nadu’s budget indicates the ground reality that the finances of the state are extremely in bad shape. To put it mildly, it is in intensive care unit.

What is particularly shocking is that the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister do not seem to be concerned at all about the conditions.

With the debt exceeding Rs. 3 lakh crore and fiscal deficit exceeding around Rs. 60,000 crore and current account deficit being around 16,000 crore. , it cannot be more worse.

Atleast, the government should have the wisdom to announce a time bound plan to retrieve the state’s finances from such dismal condition. Nothing of this sort has been done.

Politicians seem to think that what is important to stay on in power in Tamil Nadu is not efficient or responsible administration but only providing freebies and outdoing the opposition parties in slanging match.

The discussions in Tamil TV media on the budget are of such low standard that viewers get no better idea. Four or five politicians are called and one or two economists or administrators are also called, who remain almost as silent observers and decorative pieces, as politicians dominate the entire discussions, quarrelling with each other. Anchors , who are no better , also like only this sort of proceedings.

The most insulted people are the listeners of these programmes.

The current dispensation neither knows administration nor finance. All the populist welfare schemes have not been announced with any thought on source of funding. There is bankruptcy of ideas and will power. Deeply disturbed by the indifference by elected members of the state assembly. On Fri, Mar 17, 2017 at 11:31 PM, N.S. If the CM and FM of the State know what they are doing, then they can explain. Budget was drafted by some IAS officer behind the scene. They have no plans because they do not know how long they will last in the Government. As simple as that. more
