Tatkal ticket booked on IRCTC Site 48 hours in advance & on cancellation 'No Refund' was granted

My question pertains to tatkal ticket booked through IRCTC site on 25.05.2018 & was booked for 27.05.2018, instead of 26.05.2018, i.e. 48 hours prior instead of 24 hours advance as fixed by Indian railways. Obviously the ticket has to be cancelled after that no refund was granted by IRCTC site stating their rule 'NO REFUND ON CANCELLATION OF CONFIRMED TATKAL TICKET'. Several mails have been sent, once the IRCTC accepted and assure for refund but again denied for refund.

My question stands now can a Tatkal ticket be booked for more than 24 hours in advance. If not then how such cancellation is not liable for refund? more

You have not given any detail of your journey, date, train number, boarding station etc. Many time it happens specially in case of night trains that a train departs its originating station on, say 11.50 pm on 10th but reaches next station at 12.50 am on 11th. This kind of change of date creates confusion and many passengers have missed their train due to change in date at their boarding station. Your case may be the same. It is unimaginable that you will get a ticket 48 hrs prior to you journey under Tatkal scheme. Please check your ticket details and also you can reach station master of nearest station for advice. more
The period is determined from the originating point of a train and no refund is available against cancellation of a confirmed Tatkal ticket as per railways rules. more
Firstly, you should consider yourself to be lucky, you could book the tatkal ticket two days in advance. Please check the train you booked for. It should have originated (start of that train from it first station) on the 26th. If that is the case, IRCTC is correct in not issuing you a refund. And did you cancel the ticket as it was booked two days in advance or you cancelled just because you did not want to travel. Please check above before asking for refund. more
Further to my reply dated 28th Sept. 2018, in case of any difficulty for filing your complaint with consumer forum kindly send email to Mr. Jehangir Gai, who is award winner consumer activist. His email address is jehangir.gai.columnist@outlook.in. more
Tatkal is a special facility to accommodate passengers with emergency and once a confirmed ticket is issued, the transaction is complete and no cancellation should be expected. On the other hand, in case of a wait listed Tatkal ticket, the cancellation should be refunded in full. more
