Tax Agricultural Income

It is surprising that government is hesitant to collect Income Tax on agricultural income. In this connection it is important to note the following points:-
1. The tax on income from Agriculture activity can be levied by State Governments.
2. The provision in Income Tax Act 1961 to exempt Agricultural income from tax is being used by rich farmers consisting of Politicians and Business men to avoid paying income tax by showing a large portion of income from agriculture.
3. The exemption limit of Rs.2,50,000/- for income tax is more than sufficient for poor farmers.
In spite of PM's slogan that "Na khaunga, na khane doonga" in last four years no action is taken on looting of tax money by rich in the name of agriculture. more

No doubt Big Agriculturists not paying I T is wrong & should be booked. But why only Agriculturists ? there are billions people who do not pay tax in our country. Black money power one can see during election time. in Karnataka, every day we are seeing news crores of rupees changing hands have been caught. Agriculture, Industries, Big business houses, Real Estate business, where huge money is rolling, there politicians are involved. Only common people made to pay IT promptly. even we retired persons are made to pat I T & we are paing honestly. more
It is very unfortunate, the average Indian is paying tax and an agriculturist making lakhs and lakhs of income from agriculture is exempted, they take this opportunity to convert all there black income to white showing as generate from agriculture, we are helpless cant do any thing. more
I do not understand the concept of VIP he is as good as any public servant because he is drawing salary from government treasury as you and i draw with different assigned duty.Remove the culture of VIP if the government want to function properly. The more importance we give, the more they become powerful which is unwanted more
Not only do big griculturist not taxed, they get the benefit of procuring loans at low rates , and are the main people who act as money lenders at high interest rates to poor and marginal farmers, and it is these farmers who get caught in the quagmire of debt and commit suicide. It is these rich farmers who are powerful vote banks and influence politicians, and every five years when elections are due , loans get waived off. more
I agree with Mr Mohit Pande more
In India there are approx 3 Lac + VIPs.This should be drastically reduced to say 100.Then we can expect some improvements.Any one having criminal records or case pending against him/her must be deprived of VIP tag.In most of the other countries VIPs are in the range of few 100s. more
