Tax Compliance and Widen the Net
I commend the improvements by Govt of India in bringing in GST and widening the Individual Tax base. What is appalling is the impunity with which some businesses are openly flouting laws . Eg Sweet shops are openly using public space around their shops and allow sale of Samosas,Jalebis,Juices,Fast foods by collecting cash and issuing tokens without proper Billing. As observed in NOIDA and elsewhere they collect on the average almost Rs 20000/ or more each day which is unaccounted. Taken together it is huge tax evasion. I hold both i.e. the business and the citizens accountable for this malpractice and in turn huge loss of revenue to the State.
I appeal to the Tax authorities,Municipal bodies and people to come together and address this issue. I wonder what the Health dept and the Food Inspectors are doing about this ? Jai Hind more

I agree that there are a lot of vendors who are illegally setting up their shops on the roadside. At the same time we must also understand that the public also needs these vendors. What is really needed is to have authorised places and venues for such vendors, so that they have a chance to earn their livelihood and also satisfy the eneds of the public. Important thing is enforcement of systems and rules and maintaining cleanliness, which should be the responsibility of the vendors. They must keep their areas clean. They can be licensed vendors and can be allowed to operate from designated places. more

Dear Mr Law,Thank you for your comments on my post . My focus is on the issue of Sweet shops eg Agarwal et al subletting space to different vendors on a daily basis and controlling their sales through issue of tokens and NOT proper receipts .As for roadside hawkers there is a need for some regulation keeping humanitarian and civic considerations. It is the former category which is guilty of enormous tax evasion. Jai Hind more

For some unknown reason, The systems just do not work in Noida. It is one thing for the Government to decide on what needs to be done, but it is quite another thing to be able to rely on our ROTTEN Administrative Services officials to work in that direction to improve life of Noida residents.This applies to almost al areas in Noida. Be it lack of Traffic Control, be it cleanliness, be it unauthorised roadside sellers of food stuffs, be it non-working of traffic lights, be it regular breaking of traffic rules by drivers of cars and 2-wheelers and autos and cycle rickshaws. The administration does nothing, at least there is no improvement in any of these things even if administration is doing something. The reason is basically that the Officialdom has got so used to making extra money, that they avoid following rules laid down by the government. Since this has been going on for several years, in UP particularly, getting rid of such maladies will happen only when we finally get rid of the useless administrative staff and officers. more

If Noida authority has no vested interests, they have the requisite powers to deal with this racket. Will someone in Noida Authority be keen to exhibit their powers? more
