TESTING ORGANICITY OF VEGETABLES AND FRUITS :
Quality tests can be done in the Laboratory for metal content , pesticide residue and other . But when it is brought under one wing how are samples to be chosen as the produce will be from 100's of Farms . Failure from one Farm produce will be attributed all produce or quality of one Farm will be mistaken for another . So the experts feel that if
Traceability of the source or Organic Farm is possible , consumer can check and be satisfied. In the case of Big Brands and Labels it will not be possible as it would have procured from several Farms.
Even before going to the lab for testing the folowing simple tests will indicate Organicity :
- Organic produce won't come apart while cooking. When Organic brinjal is cooked in curry it will break into smaller pieces.
- Hybrids don't have seasonality . Will be available through out the year Organic fruits and vegetables are available at particular seasons only . Examplae Mangoes from April to August ,Jack fruit April May onwads . starting from Benglura to Neelam variety , the last . Oranges around September ; Drum stick in summer months . Flowes May Flower[ may get delaeyed when summer showers come late .] , and the beautiful Indian Laburnam in May . This seasonality will not be there for the Hybrid ones.
