The Mandate from Delhi Elections..

It was quite interesting watching the Delhi election results yesterday.

As someone who cares about good leadership and governance independent of political parties, I have taken one conclusion from the recent Delhi Elections. "Citizens of Delhi do care about honesty, integrity and accountability more than we think"

The Lokpal Bill movement of 2011 did one good thing - we started talking about corruption. Before that, we had just taken it for granted. It had become part and parcel of daily life, it still is for the most part. The fact that the movement has actually led to a political party and the political party by campaigning to bring these values into governance has won elections indicates what people of Delhi want.

Execution in a country like India is a different story. It has been extremely challenging because of bureaucratic processes, lack of transparency and deep rooted corruption. The good thing is that tools like Social Media and Information technology are now available and if put to good use can drive a lot of transparency and accountability in Government Systems.

Whatever party forms the Government in Delhi or in India (2014) must must have a strong commitment to these values that people of Delhi have voted for, a capable leadership and execution team, a plan to use technology for transparency and governance and accountability towards delivering timely results.

We as a country start "Delivering with Values Fast" and we will be the 2nd largest economy in the world much sooner than the projection of 2030. Along with that will come the Economic Growth and Prosperity of India. more

People are fed up with corruption. Today also COBRA POST has done a sting operation on 11 MPs of various parties. They took money for writing letter recommending for contracts. We all should support AAP. We did it in last election. more
May I address this note to you alone, dear Mani.......perhaps from one retired civilian to one retired defence officer. I happen to be in a circuit in which a retired Army colonel in Delhi NCR crusades for the welfare of the neglected retired defence personnel, be they foot soldiers or BGs. If you are not already receiving information on e.g. what's going on on the subject of pensions for retired defence personnel etc. and would like to be in the wider picture, you only need to let me have your email-id and I shall have it included in the circuit-addresslist. This subject, as you see, is, but somewhat indirectly connected with the "hopes, aspirations and promises of the AAP", if set against the lassitude and lethargy with which the current government is dealing with the situation. more
After seeing the performance of AAP in Delhi elections, it can be concluded tht almost 45% people who had voted for AAP belive in an honest and corruption free govt. Kejriwal has proved that he is a man of principle as he refused to take support of Congress. Had he done so he would have become the CM. I feel we rertired defence officers should support him. We have a large no of honest and fearless retired officers. Let us get together and help Kejriwal in the next Lok Sabha elections and give him a chance. In fact we should encourage our brother officers to stand for elections and be a part of his team......Please give your views on this. more
Great exchange of views. It is great to be in India and observe India's evolution. I must say I have learnt more in last 6 months than I did in last 6 years working in Mexico and United States. more
Happy to read, dear Sachin, your note so full of positive thinking and optimism, perhaps also with a touch of euphoria, if I may say so. The hopes and wishes expressed by you are perhaps easily fulfilled by leaders of a country who themselves are "educated and dedicated". Such people are a rarity in the Indian government today? Could "involving the masses in decision-making".......also called Bhagidari.....be a stepping stone on the path to what we all wish to see India as? more
