The Mandate from Delhi Elections..
As someone who cares about good leadership and governance independent of political parties, I have taken one conclusion from the recent Delhi Elections. "Citizens of Delhi do care about honesty, integrity and accountability more than we think"
The Lokpal Bill movement of 2011 did one good thing - we started talking about corruption. Before that, we had just taken it for granted. It had become part and parcel of daily life, it still is for the most part. The fact that the movement has actually led to a political party and the political party by campaigning to bring these values into governance has won elections indicates what people of Delhi want.
Execution in a country like India is a different story. It has been extremely challenging because of bureaucratic processes, lack of transparency and deep rooted corruption. The good thing is that tools like Social Media and Information technology are now available and if put to good use can drive a lot of transparency and accountability in Government Systems.
Whatever party forms the Government in Delhi or in India (2014) must must have a strong commitment to these values that people of Delhi have voted for, a capable leadership and execution team, a plan to use technology for transparency and governance and accountability towards delivering timely results.
We as a country start "Delivering with Values Fast" and we will be the 2nd largest economy in the world much sooner than the projection of 2030. Along with that will come the Economic Growth and Prosperity of India. more
