The Smart City Blackhole

Govt yesterday announced 9-10 more cities as smart cities and the news hungry media fed on it and published how these cities have qualified.

What I fail to understand is why is the media not questioning the utter failure of these cities and central govt smart city authorities to deliver on this project in the 50 odd smart cities already announced.

There are 200,000 members in this circle and many of them calling themselves socially active. Why are we all not picking the phone or calling on our smart cities ceo and asking them for accounts till date. more

A lot has been opined on this subject. Getting down to the brass tacks leads us to the following conclusion: If Indore was declared as a "smart city" you notice how the level of enthusiasm on its inhabitants rose to keep their city on that level. What did the trick? It's encouragement from the public and from the authorities. This lesson we all must learn. Look always at the positives that a situation offers and raise those positives to prominence. Avoid the negatives. Suddenly you'll see that many many cities shall win the medal of being smart cities. Some time back, I had suggested in this very Circle on how to motivate cities towards keeping their towns clean and swatchh. ANNOUNCE A STATEWIDE COMPETITION THAT EVERY YEAR THE CLEANEST CITYU/TOWN/VILLAGE in their State WOULD BE AWARDED WITH, SAY, .......ONE/TWO/THREE...OR MORE LACS OF RUPEES AS AWARD..... Motivation is what one needs, and financial motivation works wonders, as we've no doubt seen in the growing years of our lives. Let's do it then...... more

Good point.....also I have not seen atleast 5-6 basic criteria for becoming smart city....like daily maintenance of roads & footpaths....road safety....garbage recycling....pollution under certain level....surveillance for both traffic and crowd....90% cashless????
