The sneak thief of vision
In the normal eye, there is a balance between the inflow and outflow of the watery fluid, aqueous, in the space between the lens and the cornea. When the outflow is blocked, the pressure inside the eye rises, leading to optic nerve damage and vision loss. This condition is known as glaucoma.
Glaucoma can strike anyone all of a sudden, and periodic recording of intraocular pressure and examination of the inside of the eye is important for all those above forty years of age, says Dr. Maneesh Kumar, and adds that glaucoma, if diagnosed in time, can be managed well with eye drops, oral medication, or surgery, or by way of a combination of these approaches.
Sure, early detection is very important as vision loss due to glaucoma is irreversible.
