This is regarding Primary education in the state. The UP govt primary, middle and even inter-colleges are closing down regularly. This is due to apathy of the Govt. The teachers in the schools are paid a very fat salary as recommended by the pay commissions. But the maintenance grants of most of these schools remains just meager. And even from this meager grant the District Official want a piece of cake.

If one goes around primary schools(5-6 teachers) then it is not surprising to find that the Govt. is spending over Rs. 3.0 lacks on salary per month but the annual maintenance grant of the school is below Rs. 5000.

The school has to get the building repaired, furnitures repaired and manage for chalk, duster and even black boards, charts etc. with this grant. There are no fans, electricity points are broken or there is no wiring, etc. There is no sweeper to clean the toilets even on contractual basis. In some of the schools the teachers contribute a small token amount to get the toilets cleaned, get the rooms cleaned etc.

I wonder these maintenance grants might have been as old as the school itself.

It is high time the State Govt. devotes more money- may be atleast equal to salary of two teachers towards maintenance. In fact many schools can be run with at least one less staff. Since in all the schools there are no facilities for the children to set one only teacher engaged two-three classes and with personal arrangement rest remain on leave by rotation.
One can find over two pages of advertisement of the Akhilesh Govt. in a number of news papers. In fact if all the money spent on these advertisements are directed towards school education the situation can be enormously improved. The Govt. thinks changes can be brought by Advertisements but it fails to learn that how people who have voted this govt. hate these advertisements. more

most of govt primary schools are extending miserable education.....yes the quality of teachers is also questionable.........they are more busy with the salary package ....some strong remedial measures are needed to bring foundation knowledge as storng one more
I agree. The importance of maintenance need be emphasized which we lack. suggestion of author to earmark funds equal to 25 % of teachers of 2 nos. is proper. more
Agrawal sir there is an old saying रात के मरे को कितना रोना । UP Governing changed over to regional parties not for improvement or systematic development but only to stop BJP becoming successful in building Mandir in Ayodhya. As long as systematic development the open example is that in Noida there are no play grounds or appropriate markets or vehicle stands and when vehicles are parked on road side then challan Abhiyan starts. more
I find some people really concerned. I will suggest that they should visit any Govt. Primary school especially in a village to apprise with the situation. more
can we give pictures of such schools along with their dire conditions? more
