Ticket Booking

12864 Yesvantpur - Howarah Express has 42 berths in 2AC coach out of which only 16 berths are made available for booking through internet & across PRS counters. I tried to book 2AC tickets today by 12864 Exp for September 20, 2015, just 120days in advance. When I started the booking 14 berths were still available and only 2 berths were booked by then. Me (70+) and my wife (68+) are both senior citizens and opted for lower berths. Surprisingly one side lower berth (11) was allotted to me and an upper berth (8) inside the cubicle was allotted to my wife. It will be quite interesting to note that I booked 2AC tickets in the same train for journey on September 13, 2015 and the same berths were allotted to us for which I had to cancel the tickets. It is quite surprising to note that only one berth is designated for senior citizens in 2AC coach otherwise how the same berths would be allotted to us! Hon. Railway Minister had, in his budget speech, promised to make lower berths available to senior citizens. I think that was a blank promise, otherwise how 2 lower berths could not be allotted to us when the available number of berths were just two less than the full quota of berths. more

The railway minister must instruct the concerned officials to show the availability of berth and which berths /position of berth ( SLB, SUB, LB,MB,UB ) first then after giving the preference , availability according the preference ask for payment. So the passenger can decide in which berth he needs. The system must be altered in such a way to facilitate the travelling passengers. more  
Checked over 139 at 1400hrs and found that only 2 berths before my booking and 2 berths booked by me, total 4 berths were booked till then and 12 more berths were remaining. No lower berths for senior citizens amongst those 12 ? Then for whom the lower berths are being held back? It appears most of the lower berths are in the 26 berths block which are not made available to common passengers. more
