Ticket Cancellation charges

We have been hit hard with the ticket cancellation charges, and we have accepted it.

My simple request/stand is, if wait list tickets are not confirmed when chart is prepared, full amount should be refunded to the ticket holder. Why should a passenger, who wants to travel, is not allotted a birth and still has to bear the heavy cancellation charges. Full refund should be made without deducting even a rupee. Any clerical charges should be borne by the Railways.

If a passenger does a cancellation before chart is prepared, yes you may continue to charge minimum cancellation charges. But when a passenger is not allotted a birth on final preparation of the chart, he should not be charged anything. more

It would be useful if railways starts using analytical solutions to understand the utilization of the rail service by passengers. Based on past data, it should be possible to understand the general trends in booking and cancellations through the year, month, festival times, week days, weekends etc. This would enable them to decide on the number of passengers to be put on RAC quota and then have a few on WL (maybe 2-3%). Then WL can be stopped. This will avoid unnecessary hassles on both sides. I agree that in the current scenario, if a passenger is not confirmed then the full amount should be refunded to the passenger. Online tickets can be refunded automatically. For counter booking, the passenger should be given up to 4 days to cancel at any station across the country. This is one area where technology can be of real help. more
No comment on the issue. Tout are the worst sufferer. more
Correct IR is always looking for any source of revenue/income from passenger besides giving the basic facility to the passenger. If ticket is not confirmed after charting then full fare must be refunded including the charges borne by bank debit card/credit card. Now a days even the credit card service provider bank are not sending the amount which includes their bank service charge.I am using SBI card service and i raised the query many times that why SBI is charging their booking service charge when IR itself is not charging any booking service fee, to my surprise very cleverly they have stopped including the amount when get it in the form of OTP message during booking of rail ticket. But the charge their booking amount during generation of statement. Simple logic when a passenger has not availed services. more
It's my opinion, Rail ticket cancellation charges are unbearable! Rail being the common man mode of transport, atleast sleeper class should not bear this much cancellation charges! there is no LOGIC in charging enormous cancellation fee. more
No cancellation charges are deducted on cancellation of wait listed tickets but one has to bear the clerical or handling charges, as the tickets are booked for his own requirements and comforts despite the fact that there is no room available at the time of booking. In such cases the railways is eligible to get its handling cost from the users of their services. more
