Ticket cancellation rules

As per the present train ticket cancellation rule, conformed ticket holder has to cancel the ticket 4 hours before the scheduled departure and RAC/WL passengers has to cancel 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train. Otherwise they will loose the entire ticket amount.

If the passenger has not boarded the train, the railway is not going to leave the seat/berth as it is. It will be allotted to another passenger and make money.

Some times passengers are held in road traffic and could not reach the railway station in time and board the trains. For such passengers atleast 50% of the ticket amount is to be given. So, the ticket refund rule is to be changed in such a way that 3 hours after the departure of the train for the journey upto 500Km distance, 6 hours after the departure for journey upto 1000 km and 12 hours after the departure for journey beyond 1000 km for cancel and get refund amount. This was the old rule. This rule may be restored again. more

The new website is truly unfriendly to customer. Assessing my account and ticket cancelation tabs is made difficult. I spent three understanding the process. For several years I have been making travel plans on line. more
I would like to know why no one comments on the booking of tickets 120 days in advance. The entire problem of malpractices arise because of this advance booking.I am of the opinion 10 days is more than sufficient to book tickets in advance and there should be no RAC or waitlisted tickets. This would eliminate most of the corruption and also touts and ticketing staff manipulating the system.Further, the list of passengers booked with names and seat allotted should also be displayed at least for A/C two tier and three tier immediately on booking. more
I agree 120 days period is too long ,but 10 days is just not sufficient,Those who can plan their travel in advance should be allowed to book atleast 60 days in advance.Waiting list is also a must as some passengers may be forced to cancel their tickets due to exigencies ,and those seats should go to the waitlisted passengers to avoid corruption. In case there is no waiting list exist then the corruption will increase. The wait listed passengers should be allowed refunds even after the departure of the trains. more
I was in USA and wanted to book Mumbai-Vadodara tikt., but couldn't as IRCTC site never opened was continuosly rejecting. This new website also doesn't provide me booking history & easy cancellation process. I travelled from Vadodara to Jabalpur on Sept. 4th. I was on waiting list 3 which remained the same till last moment. Hence, tried alternative like tatkal through agent. I was assured CONFIRMED FRESH TIKT @ Rs. 2,500/- for 2AC. So corruption is as usual. While returning from Jabalpur on SEPT. 12th, my food ( parathas ) were eaten away by rats which were in abundance in the train - SO MUCH FOR SWATCHHATA campaign for which Govt. is charging separate 'cess' from tax payers. I find there too many hollow claims by l ministers like Piyush Goel, but reality is far different. more
I just travelled by TN express of 10 the Sept from NDLS to MAS. I heard the TTE telling on of just before departure to a passenger wanting to travel that he cannot issue a ticket beyond his duty section say Bhopal, as TTE s are not permitted to bookfurther since someone may book online inthe meanwhile. If true this is bizarre. I found in my Coach A2 it self many berths were unoccupied and even as 3 people got down at gwalior only one was filled up at nagpur. Similar case must have been with other 2 Ac2t coaches. Will someone say what's wrong. more
Dear All In my opinion , irrespective of whether passenger chooses not to travel by that particular train or misses his/her train by any reason , Railways should refund 50% money at least by default. Why they have such stringent rules and regulations for cancelling the tickets or non journey , anyways railways with new system of current bookings post tatkal is allotting berth to passengers and making money out of it. Then why to punish unnecessarily passengers who had to cancel reservation or missed train due to any reason , as such he/she is under stress . I think there should not be any time limitations for cancelling the ticket except 4 hrs or 12 hrs post departure of train from specified station. Warm Regards..... more
