Ticketing & reservation

Present Railway ticketing & reservation system needs to be revamped for the benefit of genuine Bonafide passengers seeking reservation of seats & berths in advance. After thorough discussions with various knowledgeable individuals & organisations in this regard, the following salient features are suggested for the benefit of general public seeking a comfortable journey.

1) Periodicity of advance booking:- no one can predict an event next at the moment/second. This being the case how can anyone predict a journey 4 months in advance? This has caused malpractices as people/agents casually block accommodation whether utilised or not, as cancellation charges are negligible. This hinders provision of rightful accommodation to those planning a journey at a later date. Many block berths by booking accommodation in various classes, on various dates & by various trains. They will retain the required accommodation & cancel the remaining at a later date. This forces other passengers planning to travel at a later date, to wait for tatkal booking only.
Solution: the advance reservation period should be brought down to 30 days for long distance trains involving a journey time of 10 hours or more for sleeper classes & 10 days in the case of sitting (chair car) accommodation, by retaining 50% quota for tatkal booking as, many passengers are able to decide a journey at the nick of the moment only. All trains should have comfortable chaicars for short distance passengers so that long distance passengers gets sleeper berths. Cancellations on reserved tickets should be allowed by deducting 25% of fare if cancelled 48 hours before the scheduled departure of trains, 50% of fare if cancelled lesser than 48 hours & upto 8 hours before the scheduled departure of trains. No refunds within 8 hours before the scheduled departure of trains should be allowed.
2) Tatkal reservation:-
Tatkal booking should be made available for individual passengers booking online & at railway reservation counters only, by eliminating agent booking as everyone has internet access on their mobile phones these days. Tatkal booking should be allowed to open 6 hours before the scheduled departure of each & every train separately for passengers to choose in an urgency or emergency unlike a specific time as of now for all trains together. 50% of retained seats/berths & seats/berths falling vacant on account of cancellations of regular advance reservations after adjusting to waitlisted passengers, should be released & made available for booking under tatkal quota with 10% extra charges levied on total fare. Under no circumstances no refunds on cancelled tatkal tickets should be granted & there should be no provision for cancellations of tatkal should exist.
It's expected this would ease getting reserved seats/berths to passengers while curbing malpractices & corruption to a great extent more

Sub:- How Railway can increase Revenue in Passenger ticket Reservation . Dear Sir, (1)As soon as Tatkal quota full the system has to run the ticket allotment immediately. this will help passenger to know their status of reservation. This will also help passenger to book ticket between which station seats are vacant & this available seats list is also displayed on separate tab under train no wise.Upto one hour Before Departure of train from Originating station (like Current Booking) By doing this passenger may know their status before 20 to 36 hours of Journey instead of 4 hours( at present the time of chart preparation ). By doing this Railways has no revenue loss . but they will get additional revenue for seat available for intermediate stations. This will also help to stop the corruption by running TTE staff. and railway can also reduce the number of TTE in running trains (2) all VIP Quota should be charged Tatkal fare as now these days there is misuse of VIP Quota , HQ Quota , Staff Quota ( mostly this amount is reimbursed by employer/Govt.) (3) all the reservation in running train should be allotted by TTE through online portal so Black Marketing by TTE is reduced . as any Passenger on rout can book Birth online for vacant Births. by providing Tab/ Laptop / swap card machine type reservation machine to running TTE. We can reduce 50% TTE staff in running Train. If you want any more clarification please feel free write to at vkgryp@yahoo.co.in more
Fully Disagree more
Good suggestion. Pl. move petition. more
Railway started earning crores after 4 months advance booking in upcoming time they ask for 6 months or even 9 months advance booking rally ridiculous. more
The suggestions are not tenable neither these are going to be helpful in any way for the common man excepting that the period for advance booking should be brought down to 30 days for all classes. Tatkal quota need not be increased further as further increase will deprive many genuine passengers from getting confirmed reservation compelling them to shell out substantial extra money for booking under 'Tatkal' depriving the eligible from the available concessions. Mr Krishnan's recommendation for allowing booking under 'Tatkal' quota only before 6 hours of scheduled departure of the train will only result in remaining the designated berths vacant, as not more than 1% of the passengers under this quota are forced to travel under extra ordinary circumstances & under very short notice. The present system of opening booking under Tatkal 24 hrs before the scheduled departure of a train is working fine, as I feel. Cancellation charges for confirmed tickets are no more negligible and there should not be any more increase therein. Cancellation charges for an AC(second) ticket was RS.60/- a couple of years back, which is now Rs.300/- working out to 20 to 25% of the ticket cost in majority of the cases. The instances of multiple booking for a single journey must be a few for which majority of the passengers can't be made scapegoat. The present arrangements should be left undisturbed. more
