Assuming Car mileage of 15 KM per liter Diesel, Cost of fuel for 200 km is Rs 1300/-
Toll Charges Rs 500
Cost of travel Increased by 38% due to Toll Charges
No business in India can generate this much of Margin.
This is after paying 70-100% tax on buying Car, 18% on Car Insurance.

Politicians are not required to pay any toll tax irrespective of the number of trips. Politicians and Government vehicles also must pay toll tax except ambulances and dignitaries like President and Prime Minister. Moreover, toll tax is already collected by charging cess on fuel (This was started during Late Mr. Atal Bihari Bajpayee's regime). Also, Government is expected to provide basic infrastructure like health, roads free of cost. Where are these things considered?

If You dont have money to travel on Highway ,use Un-tolled road. Also the rate of Toll is Higher In some state / areas. Instead of Govt. Should Fix Toll tax Per km over all Country basis. Rs. 0.50 Per Km. For Cars, jeep , Rs. 1.00 For Buses , Rs. 1.25 for Trucks , Rs. 1.50 for Multiaxis Trucks , Tailors . It will Solve the Problem. Toll is needed for regular maint. of the roads & every Car owner should pay it without any complaint.

While I agree in principle, what choice do we have as ordinary citizens? No one will hear our voices or comments. All politicians are smug in their AC offices and in between the Great Roads Minister will throw in some new impractical idea which generally never sees the light5 of the day. So we, ordinary beings, keep on thinking of a beautiful new week, or new month or new year. Ultimately we forget and carry on with our dreary lives.

See for political people they will neither pay toll ir income tax. They are supreme law makers. Evan supreme Court is not bothered as the judges are not paying toll as long as they are un service free transport facilities are provided. Here general public only pays alk these kinds if taxes in India otherwise you see celebrities and great sports persons will not pay such taxes even income tax they avoid. You are comparing two unrelated things. Toll charges are meant for recovering the investment in roads, without good roads you would not be able to travel any where. Mr Padnabhan has rightly suggested that instead of using Car take to travel by Trains & Busses.

Do you know what are Road taxes that a person pays while buying a car, being used for? Have you got some sense? If the transport infrastructure in our Nation is excellent, with connectivity to all parts of the Nation at reasonable rates, why would anyone buy a personal automobile?
