Traffic Police cannot harass you for expired papers

In order to prevent the further spread of the covid-19 virus, the central government last week announced that the validity of essential documents like driving license, vehicle registration certificate, and fitness certificate has now been extended till September 30. The union transport ministry has instructed the enforcement agencies to accept these documents, even if expired, till September end.
The new order is not applicable to all the vehicle documents, like Pollution Under Control (PuC) certificates. If your vehicles' PUC is due to expire, it is mandatory to get the vehicle tested for a fresh certificate.
-States and union territories have been told to implement the new rules to ensure that commuters and those engaged in transport services are allowed to move from point to point without 'harassment.'

As long as corruption exists in this country, these traffic,RTO, people continue to loot by creating various excuses viz: order not received, Gazette notification or respective traffic police heard quarters not given permission etc. To avoid harassment from government servants, whenever any order issued by government, it also should carry clarity that no separate report required. more

As per amendments made during 2019 in the IT Act 2000 and the Motor Vehicls Act 1988, Digital copies of the Driving Licence and the R C Books stored in the Digi Lockers will be legally recognised. As such, carrying the hard copies of these original documents is no more mendatory. Therefore, the issues as referred to by Mr Ratti should no more arise. more

It is a well know fact police people harass citizens to fill their pockets for all trivial things and they do not stand for any reason when talked to them.They are arrogant and harsh and they do not respect citizens All of them should be trained to how to behave with citizens.If that person is a public figure like mla/babus then whatever be the issue they are passed without any restriction even if they skip the stop light also they are not charged forget about anything else.This is the state of affairs in every state and a legacy which we have inherited. more

The LC community should be thankful for such vigilant members as Ms Sarita Ravichandran. The biggest source of harassment is when a driver shows a laminated "copy" of his DL (which looks exactly like the original) and the traffic police fines him for not carrying the original DL with him. It is rumoured that getting hold of the original DL the traffic police can blackmail the driver into bribery if he wants the original DL back. Can such policemen be called "servants of the people", as their Department proclaims? more
