TRAI order on Cable/DTH
I see a lot of confusion among the members regarding the latest order by TRAI on cable/DTH charges. Let me explain it how will it work.
The Rs 153 is for the first 100 channels whether FTA or paid. Out of this 100, 26 DD channels are compulsory. You can select balance 74 to your choice. They can be paid or free. Do you really watch 100 Channels?? I don't think more than 10. Select only what you watch your bill will come down. Pay channel charges are added over Rs.153. In the earlier regime pay channel charges were as high as RS 60 but now TRAI has put a cap of Rs 19. Wait for some time all these pay channels will become FTA or will have to reduce the charges once the no. of subscribers go down. For example the prime time is from 8-10 PM. North India either watches Sony, Star Colors or ZEE. In the earlier package system you were getting all four but now subscribe only those channels which you watch. The NCF charges are for the operator and the pay channel charges are for the broadcaster. Good job done by TRAI in stopping the loot by the broadcasters. Must have heard about the recent fight between Sony and TATASky and earlier between STAR and Airtel. This was because of hike in pay channel charges. more

If one has 3 connections in a house then one can manage with 2-3 paid channels on one connection with under Rs. 250 package but not a person with a single connection.. more

Hi Sumeet On your case you pay 485/month for air-tel connection. It may be less for you. but not same for all. TRAI should combine paid channels also in 100 block. When price raised from 130 them may charge extra. can you suggest on my case. I have tata sky DTH having 220/month plan. We normally watch SET, Star +, Colors, Zee TV, &TV, 2 Regional channels. and 5 movie channels and 2 cartoon channels Total 10-15 channel). How it can be planned for 220/month or less. As per TATA SKY Plan they charge 350 +. In a 5 members family as per their own time and choice they view these channels more

If one feels contented by subscribing ONLY 2-3 paid channels only and even then one's bill will be around Rs. 230-235.Then I have nothing to say.But would it be called entertainment Without music, films, bhajan, health, infotainment and entertainment for kids? Definitely it will not be entertainment. Moreover in place of 2-3 paid channels for Rs. 225 or so NOW, we were EARLIER getting for Rs 250 around 175 channels of all genre. So it is crystal clear that the new tarrif is much more costlier and belies the Trai's announcements from time to time. The difference between 2-3 & 175 channels is Glaring.TRAI needs to revisit its new tarrif order in the interest of the consumer,which it is professing, from the house tops. more

Mr. Patro I have Airtel DTH thre connections. Earlier I had taken their Infinity package RS 5851 pa. For the other two I was paying a monthly rental of Rs 270 pm/connection. Now I have made my own plan and subscribed to Colors HD Sony HD Star sports HD 1 plus 5-6 Hindi/English news channels. Star sports because of the current India Newzealand series will discontinue after the series is over. My monthly for the first connection is Rs. 224.00. more

Kindly inform the details of paid channels(like names of paid entertainment, news, infotainment, music,kids and bhakti channels etc) selected by you so that people like me are able to take benefit of your choice. more

Subscribed to Colors HD Sony HD Star sports HD 1 plus 5-6 Hindi/English news channels. Star sports because of the current India Newzealand series will discontinue after the series is over. If you TV is on throughout the day and you family members watch different channels then your bill will go up. more
