Trains running 12-21 hours late

Is this some kind of a joke on train travellers. Why would I travel in Vande Bharat if it is 12.5 hours late. Is it not equipped to run in fog? Does it not have antifog mechanisms??

Answer Railway Minister or his staff? more

Apart from fog in winter mostly trains run late by 1-2 hrs when there is no fog. One reason is that the stations doesn't have platform to receive trains. priorities is given to Rajdhani, Shatabdi express trains. Also priority is given to trains belonging to the respective zones and other zones trains are kept waiting for signals at outers of stations. I cant understand why they can't cover delays by increasing the speed when actual speed is hardly 45-50 kmph. more
One can argue on both sides. Is fog a new phenomenon in last 15-20 years only? Was it not there till 1980s and before? Then why trains run SO late now than they were 40 years ago? Especially when average speed is 50-60 kmph for most express trains and ~80 kmph for Rajdhanis / Shatabdis/ VB and max speed is 110-140 kmph and has not changed over last 100 years. Why trains are substantially more delayed on DDU-Prayagraj -Delhi section than on DDU- Lucknow- Amritsar section? Probably the reason lies in very high train traffic density and regulations that are much more stringent about train safety than they were 40 years ago. Those days trains getting 2-3 h late in fog were able to make up later in the day time. Not any more. Further, certain zones like SECR and SER have a policy of prioritizing goods traffic and there even without fog trains like Duronto run 6-8 h late whole round the year. As a matter of fact, NCR: (DDU-Prayagraj- Delhi and Jhansi-NZM) has a very poor punctuality record all round the year as compared with NR (DDU-LKO_ ASR) and of course best are SR and WR. more
Globally especially in europe and usa there are more fog and they have planes which handles these fog situations very well as well as vehicles.Since fogs are not common here hence aircraft when bought for india they do not take this option . more
Fog is very dangerous. It disturbs are rail, air and road travel. Even 2 and 4 wheeler drivers are getting killed dye to fog from 7pm to 9am. I could drive my car for 1 km with great difficulty between 6.30-7pm but to talk about mid night or morning fog. This problem is world over like floods. Even fully developed countries had to bow before such situations. more
Mr Ajay dutta. I am sure your car is equipped with fog lamps, rear camera and maybe some other sensors as well. Kindly drive over to north India any of these peak winter days .. central U.P. and upwards upto Punjab,, and show us your driving skills in early morning and late night dense fog when visibliy is just a few meters. I am sure with all the fancy equipmens in your car you will attain a speed of at least 75 kmph.. Your complain towards railways being a JOKE and causing delays in VB express operations will sand validated A train is a much larger moving object with massive mass and orangutan inertia. Passenger safety is important tlate than NEVER Either you have no idea what kind of blinding fog is occurring on highways and countryside these days,, OR you assume that railways must carry some magic device which makes the trains zip at 90 kmph through low visibilty fog. more
