Transforming Delhi.....

I presume, that "Transforming Delhi" includes everything that is done to give an overall face-lift to the city.

Since a few weeks dustbin-pairs in colours blue and green with orange-coloured lids, capacity approx. 50 litre each, have been noticed along the Africa Avenue. These dustbin-pairs are 80-100 meters apart.

One wonders, what purpose these dustbins are supposed to serve. Have these been put up there to keep the city clean, for people to throw garbage into those bins? But then there hardly are pedestrians walking in those areas, and drivers will not stop their vehicles on that busy road to discard their plastic packing for chips into those bins.

Surely, these 50 litre bins are not there to help road cleaners put the garbage into them.

So, one wonders............... more

Let us make Delhi good for seniors, ladies and handicaps. My suggestions for them - 1. At least 10% separate space reserved at all parkings 2. In metro each coach should have a separate section with designated doors and also separate entry / security queues ( in some cities buses have this). Same for Delhi buses 3. Some metro stations exits don’t have escalators and lifts. Particularly one leading to New Delhi station and Old Delhi station (Chandni Chowk) where most have heavy bags with them 4. Any office or commercial outlets etc should clearly have separate queues ( as railway reservation offices) 5. Railways to increase reservation quota to minimum 20% ( left overs in any case become general while charts are made) 6. Delhi police should screen taxis and auto owners and drivers strictly and certify accordingly safe with frequent routine checks on roads more
With Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, at least a beginning has been made & going forward this must gather momentum. We must remember that we all are stake holders in this and not just expect everything from the govt. more
I fully agree with Mr. Satya Pal Ratti, these dust bins at a distance of 80-100 mtrs apart and at a place where no pedestrian can use , are only show pieces at prominent location. And Renuka ji presence of dustbins play an imp role in keeping a place neat, by commenting we are at least making the authorities aware that in most of the publis places dustbins are usually not available. more
We all believe- Cleanliness is God. However we believe in God but not in cleanliness. We will do anything, spend good amount of money to keep our houses clean. But when it comes to common area, we are least concerned and are not willing to contribute a small amount even. more
I think it is a well thought out move. Whether there are pedestrians on the road or not, the vehicular passengers could also use it. Of course, they will have to stop for a while. The very sight of these dust bins reminds us of the need to use them. I have seen dust bins in the residential localities and the market places that are used. But the problem is that these are not cleaned regularly. The Municipal Corporations have got to see that these are regularly cleaned and maintained properly for the use these are meant. The persons responsible for cleaning must mark their attendance every day that confirms the implementation. more
