Travel Insurance Policies

We wish to bring the different routines and rules followed by the travel insurance Companies when it comes to refunds for unused time.
This happened to us this month when we traveled to New Zealand from Mumbai to see our children.

Undersigned took HDFCERGO travel insurance for just under 3 months. But had to cut short the trip by more than half because of urgent work back home.
I asked for possible refund of the unused days but was refused flatly.

My spouse took Reliance insurance for same period and they are going to refund for the unused days without any issues.

Why dont we have standardized rules for all Companies in India ? It is grossly unfair they will not refund for the unused time.It is not a small amount we pay every time we travel overseas esp. senior citizens like me pay double the normal premium amount !

Thanks more

I think you can claim compensation if you have to cut down your travel plans due to exigency. Why not explore that & lodge claim. HDFC Bank & its affiliates are very bad in helping or providing proper service. BEWARE. My own experience with HDFC Bank & HDFC Securities. more
Rules to be same agree . for refunding and not refunding the unused time. It is better to choose the ins company after reading the rules and regulations . Rules and regulations of HDFCERGO may be checked. more
Insurance is an agreement. After a particular period, it can not be reduced, as the costumer wish. Please verify, if such terms are appearing in the policy ? more
Insurance rules should be same for all companies in a country. Base price should be same. Add on feature may attract more money. more
The matter of any insurance, and companies, is very competitive. Hence T & C will be different. This all depends on the T & C of your HDFC insurance. more
Insurance rules should be same for all companies. more
