Tricking consumer on MRP information front

some of my friends who are in ecommerce sector are telling me that a big sale is coming in ecommerce.

but what they also told and laughed about is how the companies will fool the consumers by manipulating algorithms so list prices are jacked up to show inflated discount.

what does consumer ministry do or can do such that consumer is not manipulated? more

There is no point in blaming the eCommerce companies only for manipulation in the actual prices of consumers items & articles they are dealing with. Its happening everywhere. In present days one will find flood of discounts being offered everywhere in every shops and business places including the companies/firms engaged in constructions of commercial/residential spaces and dwellings through out the year keeping the customers in dark of their actual price/value. Hence, appropriate action has to be taken by the government in every cases, so that the consumers/customers are not duped in any way by any one. more
For the ministry to act, complaints must pour in like a deluge, with fact and figures, dates, and place etc. How to work it out is our ingenuity. more
Announcing a "SALE" is a marketing technique to lure the customers to buy items which they may not need due to greed factor. All stores selling products under Sale jack up the prices and then show a big discount. Ultimately all Retailers whether e-commerce or not want to make profit. There are very few instances of some corporate houses offering genuine discount during Sale to dispose of old stock where inventory carrying cost is more. more
MRP has no meaning whatsoever unless a code is prepared mandating how MRP is to be worked out. This will be a difficult task as it would be difficult to fix the profit quantum at every stage. The only help MRP provides is that the retailer will not be able to quot his fancy price, if that means anything. more
Just choose your Items that you desire but at a lower price & put them into your 'Wishlist' .. keep a copy of this in an Excel File separately by just copy+paste method .. When the 'Sale' actually happens, match the discounted prices with your Excel prices .. buy the ones you find have lowered to your desired prices .. more
