TV Channel Packs for viewers
29th Dec 2018 has passed. And we see that some channels are advertising different value packs related to their channels. It is not always that a viewer is watching that channel, when it displays the value pack rates. And therefore, viewer is confused about various packs being available, and various channels under each of such packs being available.
True, that value of each channel is available on many internet sites. But when a value pack is offered, this total value gets reduced to give the viewer the advantage for having chosen more number of channels from that telecasting group.
Almost none of the DTH operators have these details on their websites. TRAI has acted totally dumb on this issue.
What does the viewer wants?
Channels of his/her choice at most economical rates.
What can be done for the viewer to achieve this?
Simple. Each DTH operator, on it’s website, provides the list of all channels offered in groups and the rates for each such group, with a facility for the viewer to choose them by ticking the box provided in front of each of them. As the viewer goes on adding the groups, the sum total for the monthly charges at the bottom of that column, start getting updated.
In the end, the viewer can select/deselect one or more groups to arrive at the final list of the channels to be viewed at the monthly cost price of the sum total appearing in that table.
Viewer can then save the list.
DTH operator can then send a message to the registered mobile number of the viewer, to confirm the choice finalized.
Viewer confirms it.
BOTH parties have communicated to confirm the viewer’s choice of packs/lists of channels selected and acknowledgement from the DTH operator for having correctly received it.
Current TRAI policy is loose, vague and appears to have been made to create more problems, than solving the existing ones.
