Two AAP leaders in Varanasi allegedly by BJP workers - Times of India
Two Aam Aadmi Party leaders were injured in an alleged attack by BJP workers in Varanasi late on Monday night. The two were campaigning at Assi Ghat when a mob of 20 people attacked them. The injured AAP leaders were rushed to the hospital.
According to reports, Ankit Lal, AAP national IT cell coordinator, and Nandan Mishra, an IITian who left his job to work for AAP, were going around the ghat along with other volunteers singing songs in favour of AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, when a mob attacked them with sticks and rods.
The attackers fled the scene, leaving the two leaders bleeding. A complaint was later lodged at Bhelupura police station. Soon after the incident, social media was full of tweets by AAP volunteers condemning the attack. They also tweeted pictures of the two injured leaders.
AAP's UP spokesman Vaibhav Maheshwari told TOI that while Nandan's nose bone has broken, the assault damaged left ear drum of Ankit.
AAP's national spokesman Sanjay Singh accused BJP workers of attacking AAP volunteers and leaders and questioned Modi wave in the country. The incident, he said, shows that BJP is worried and frustrated by AAP's growing popularity in Varanasi. A few days back AAP leader and former minister Somnath Bharti was also attacked allegedly by BJP workers during a TV shown in Varansi.
Journalist-turned-politician and AAP leader Ashutosh tweeted "attack on AAP volunteers by BJP goons can't intimidate us but it's sad to see administration in Varanasi keeping quite. These are organized attack, fascist in nature. Modi wants a violent India."
AAP leaders also blamed the Election Commission of not taking cognizance of attacks on AAP volunteers and leaders in Varanasi.
