Unable to print tickets if booked on IRCTC website

This a recent trend in IRCTC bookings that even after confirmed tickets (with berth & coach nos. alloted) one cannot get tickets in hand. Hence, one will be unable to travel. IRCTC next generation on-line booking site does everything (e.g. sending SMS, travel insurance, etc) but does not let you print tickets. ERS print button does not work either in Hindi or English since next generation version came into being. Earlier, I used to obtain ERS as attachments by writing to care-irctc, but for the last couple of months IRCTC has stopped doing this practice also. I don't think by next generation website Railways means - You book now & your next generation will get it as so happens in civil litigations in court of law, one files a suit and that person's children or grand children get a final verdict!
I have made four bookings during the last two months but unable to print tickets nor obtain ERS as attachment from IRCTC via email. Looks money will go waste, unless one cancels bookings by paying exorbitant & unjustified amounts and buying tickets from reservation counter.
As far as SMS is concerned, in absence of net connectivity on track mostly, a passenger is unable retrieve ticket/ERS on mobile ph." more

There is a separate provision for printing of the tickets. However, the site is not as user friendly as it was expected. more
I can suggest you one thing. I agree lot of things got changed after the launch of new generation website. I request you to consult any person near you and get your browser cache cleared and get to know the proper procedure for printing tickets. But for ticket as SMS you can get that only before 3 days of journey date. Other way to obtain the SMS ticket is that you can send a message to 139 by "PNR " more
I never faced printing issue. This is working as expected. I'm also overall satisfied with the website. But I cannot book railway dormitory online. more
we need to be careful of needless finger pointing. I am in the field of computers and software development for nearly 30 years now and IRCTC is one of the best and power sites ever deployed. When you look at the scale of operations that the site handles, it is incredible that it does not break down once in a while. So let us appreciate the service provided by it and the convenience created for such large numbers on a daily basis. At the same time the system also gets abused by agents and those who care for their own selfish needs and want to find shortcuts, primarily with tatkal booking. Is it a fool proof system? Probably not, it has some glitches. Coming to Printing, i have not tried it recently and hence cannot comment. However few points to be noted. SMS delivery does work. You get a message within a minute or two after the booking is completed and there is also an option to resend message 3 days before the travel. Even for RAC and wait-listed passengers, once the chart is prepared, status update is shared as a text message. One comment was that SMS was "As far as SMS is concerned, in absence of net connectivity on track mostly, a passenger is unable retrieve ticket/ERS on mobile ph". I can understand ERS cannot be pulled up without data connectivity. But SMS is already available on the phone and can be shown as a ticket. If printing has a specific issue, please capture and share along with details. I believe lakhs of tickets are being booked and if printing is a general problem, many would have had trouble with travel. However, I traveled just 2 weeks ago and saw passengers with printed tickets. So it is working in general. Let us be constructive in our comments and criticism and not just for finger pointing. more
Printing of tickets after booking even if one wants to print immediate is working absolutely fine hence I don't think this post is useful, ya on the contrary i do accept the current version of IRCTC is not user friendly, but printing of ticket is possible all time even I booked on tatkal ticket from PRG to DAA and went on to print option after booking confirmed then I saved the ticket on my laptop in PDF mode. You may also try the same option like I did. more
