Understanding Community Transmission of COVID-19
For those who are unaware, COVID-19 can spread in 3 ways:
1) Actual Travel to one of the affected countries and local transmission from someone infected when there
2) Local Transmission in India - Infection through contact or droplets of someone who has travelled to affected countries
3) Community Transmission in India - Infection by being present in the same room or via air transmission from the infected person.
Per ICMR results so far, we are yet to see evidence of community transmission in India.
In addition, if one looks at the attached graphic shared by multiple members in circles, one can see that the biggest COVID19 outbreaks have been within the 5-11°C temp, 47-79% humidity band (yellow band, with black circles representing countries with significant community transmission). We are yet to see examples of countries in red zone with community transmissions.
Additional ICMR test results of random samples to be announced today will help in understanding if there is any evidence of community transmission in India.
We must maintain high levels of hygiene and sanitation, prepare and take necessary precautions but not panic.
Be safe and healthy everyone! more
