Undue Benefits to Hospitals

We will be studying the subject matter next and submitting it for further review.

It has been brought to our attention that various hospitals (esp in Delhi) have gotten converted from charitable hospitals to private hospitals. This has resulted in the hospitals now having free premium real estate at zero or very little cost. In addition, these hospitals are charging premium rates to patients and not paying income taxes (benefit given to charitable hospitals). Very limited EWS patients are treated as against what they are supposed to.
Per some of the submissions received, in many cases, the running expenses of some of these hospitals are also covered through CGHS empanelment. At the end, both Government and Citizens are being penalized while these hospitals generate solid profits for their promoters.

If you have such cases in your city/state, you are requested to share more details at the earliest.

If you would like to keep your identity confidential, you may submit a "new anonymous post"

All the unethical and dishonest did are very much within the knowledge of the authorities and Govt. Bodies. There is no redress and we the lambs in the form of public know that this is the part of life and we are compelled to accept it. Please do not show us false hope or silver line. more
not all, some pvt hospitals are doing like so, that govt or patients only can tell even in pvt hospitals, even after the death of the patients they are keeping in icu and taking money.. more
This is not a stray case pertaining to Delhi alone. All over India, the hospitals and doctor community have become greedy and organised white collar robberers. It is not possible to wipe out this problem by a single procedure. I have one suggestion that the rates for various services/medication are made available to patients on demand. We as public has to demand details of any extra charge levied by the hospitals/doctors. If it is not justified then it should be reported to citizens' committee and consumer forum and to District Medical Officers for time bound enquiry and action against erring hospitals/doctors.the action should be again decided by the citizens' committee and may vary from heavy fine to closure of hospital under the present management. more
All the Central and State Governments should examine each cases of hospitals which were granted government lands at free of cost or concessional rates to open charitable hospitals and were also granted other concessions including rebate in income tax at periodical intervals as to how they are functioning and their present state of affairs and initiate suitable punitive actions in the event of any violation instead of asking the circle members for the details of such cases. In fact the management of such hospitals dare to engage in such corrupt practices in corroboration with the concerned government officials and the local leaders and the concerned governments are not unaware of such cases. In many such cases the people running the governments are also directly or indirectly involved and their interests are well taken care of. It is also no secret that most of the doctors earning huge money do not pay income tax for their entire income but do not find any difficulties in getting their income tax returns cleared. more
