Unfair advantage to FDI single brand retail

The Government has given the likes of IKEA relaxation on publishing MRP. This applies to all foreign single brand retailers.

So its a disadvantage if you are an Indian single brand retailer. You will still need to publish MRP but the foreign counterpart won't.

So does that mean soon food and other consumer products made abroad and sold in India will also not have to comply with mrp laws? more

Firstly, as I understand, this so-called "relaxation" is valid for one year only w.e.f 4th December 2017. Secondly, absolute limitations are spelt out clearly in Clause (1). So, where's the problem, then? more
It appears to me that (1) this rule allows the importer not to print MRP on the product. (2) If so it is for Big show rooms in cities, where goods are store/ displayed and sold from racks.(3) however the importer can print MRP if he wants.(4) If so what about the other places where goods are not displayed on racks ? (5) At present all the importers are required to print /fix MRP on the product/packages, before entering the product in the Indian market. However we always find this rule is not followed in India and the imported goods are sold without MRP. The present amendment made their job easy. It is not consumer friendly, as all the Indians do not have internet to know the comparable price in advance. The amendment is not clearly worded and will be misused by Indian traders as usual. more
In case of imported consumer goods, printing of MRP is MUST. Please read the circular again. more
This is the problem with our consumer forum. When taxes are subject to state and central policies how come that is included in the price while producing the product. Neither the actual production cost nor the actual taxes are revealed to the customer who is actually paying for the product. This indicates that business and the Govt colluded for their self benefits. more
Sir, under GST, both state and central governments share GST equally and it is uniform single tax rate throughout the country. That is the basic principle behind GST. more
AGAIN OPPOSITION WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO SAY THAT FOR FEW FDI THIS RULE IS FRAMED SO BETTER REMOVE THIS RULE AND PUT EVERYBODY UNDER ONE ROOF more
Dear Khannaji, I am unable to understand what made you to conclude that there is a relaxation on publishing MRP to Single Brand retailers. Because, attached guidelines clearly tells that Sales Price is to be affixed on the racks on which the product is stored and also they have to publish their sale price on their website. In addition to that, the circular also says "The above mentioned relaxation does not preclude declaration of MRP on pre-packaged commodities, by means permitted under the Legal Metrology Act and Rules, if the single Brand retail entity chooses to do so." Therefore, please let us know if your concern is correct. more
