Unhygienic Food

1. Strict guidelines and certification procedure for vendors who are permitted to sell food in train/platform;
a. Neatly dressed (unique dress code across India) with ID card (issued by railway)
b. Must wear cap and hand-gloves
c. Only steel appliances, with food covered by food grade poly thin or glass.

d. Food should never be with bear hand

e. It is the responsibility of railways to train and equip them, before permitting them to sell food inside train/platforms

2. Food- Every state has some well known local food chains /food catering services, which supply authentic local foods, which are hygenic and affordable. For example, in Karnataka, Adiga's, MTR (http://www.mtrfoods.com), Maiyas (http://www.maiyas.in/), Udipi and Kamath cahin of hotels are known for their ethics, quality and hygiene. MTR and Maiyas are nearly 100 yrs old and now become international Vegetarian brands. I am sure smilar local barnds may found in every other states.

3.Catering services should be awarded to such established local brands , so that people get the authentic local food when train enters into a particular state. At present, these catering services are awarded to some spurious, unknown caterers based on monitory consideration and nepotism.

4. Also, a railways catering and food services innovation centre may be established in collaboration with CFTRI (Central Food and Technological research Institute, Mysore). more

I AGREE WITH THE CONDITION'S MENTIONED BY YOU FOR HYGENIC POINT OF VIEW.  I THINK RAILWAY OFFICIALS SHOULD TAKE POSITIVE STEP IN THIS REGARD. AS OF NOW ALL LONG DISTANCE TRAIN DO NOT HAVE PANTRY. RAILWAY SHOULD MAKE IT COMPULSORY TO HAVE PANTRY BEFORE STARTING OF ANY LONG DISTANCE TRAIN. IN INDIAN RAILWAY TRAVELERS  ARE OF DIFFERENT ECONOMICAL STATUS. HENCE TO CATER DIFFERENT STANDARD OF ECONOMICAL STATUS DIFFERENT CATERER SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO ENTER INTO THE SERVICES IN THE RAILWAY PLATFORM AS WELL AS TRAIN. THERE SHOULD BE FREE & FARE COMPETETION BETWEEN CATERER. AND NO RAILWAY OFFICIALS OR RAILWAY POLICE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO STOP ANY CATERER FOR THEIR ADVANTAGE. ONCE IT IS IN PLACE AUTOMATICALLY GOOD CATERER WILL GET THEIR BUISNESS AND SERVE THE PASSENGER FROM OUTSIDE WITHOUT HAVING IMPACT OF LATE RUNNING OF TRAINS. IN MY OPINION RAILWAY SHOULD ALLOW ALL CATERER ( WHO ARE INTERESTED TO SERVE) TO TAKE ORDER FROM PASSENGER AND COMPLY THE SAME. RAILWAY SHOULD STOP MONOPOLY OF CATERER LICENCES (ALL LICENCES ARE CORRUPTION BREEDING GROUND). STRONG & PROMPT ACTION SHOULD BE INITIATED WITHIN TIME FRAME. ONLY THEN PASSENGER WILL HAVE COMFORT TO GET THE SERVICE OF VENDOR / CATERER TO DESIRED OR LEVEL FOR WHICH PROMISES WERE MADE BEFORE GETTING ORDER.   YOURS DEBENDRA NATH SINHA On Tuesday, 22 July 2014 2:17 PM, Himesh Shivappa wrote: more
Good suggestion. Railway should implement strictly.... more
As suggested by Mr.Vaidhyanathan "Bring food from home" is not possible for all. So people who have to depend on others for food, need some good catering services. In many stations, we have people bringing food from restaurants and delivering the same to passengers in compartments. For this you need to know the mobile no. of the restaurant and you need to have a mobile with a roaming facility. More than 50% of passengers travelling are not tech=savvy and may not even have a mobile on them. Hence it becomes the responsibility of the railways to provide good hygienic food to its passengers. This can be done only by regularising unlicenced hawkers and making them responsible for supply of good hygienic food. For this we need a corruption free system. And to achieve a corruption free system, we need Honest people in the Rly. administration, which is a Rare commodity. The best way to start this system is for the NGOs to take up causes in their areas, and ensure that full support is extended by the Govt. and also Rly. administration to achieve the same. The second best solution for this is to float a separate body, consisting of local NGOs, clean Politician, Honest Rly. administration with the help of Upright Police Force. Ache Din Jaroor Aayenge. Waqt Lagega. Let us atleast bow the seeds to Honesty now so that in another 2 to 3 years, we may start getting the fruits of it. more

Good suggestion that catering in railway stations should be handled by well known catering brands. Even if we have to pay more we should be able to get clean, hygienic and tasty food. more
