The Serum Institute of India has informed the Maharashtra government that it can supply Covishield vaccine only after May 20.
Isnt this ridiculous. This Poonawala has taken 3000 crores from Govt and permission to sell vaccine at most expensive rates in India at a time when he cant even supply doses to the state where he is located.

Ashaji - It is easy to say than done. SII has a limited capacity whereas government opened up vaccination for all adults which is wrong. Just getting the credit from government does not mean that production will start the next day. It will take time to put the infrastructure in place. Moreover you need to understand that this is vaccine production which needs to undergo rigorous quality checks. SII CEO says that he would supply in a phased manner. Already there is a backlog for 45 plus population. All other countries have started vaccinating seniors only except US which is a different country & cannot be compared. In this pandemic period, vaccine must be free for all citizens reckoning various factors as given by all other countries. more

Crux of the problem seems to lie elsewhere. Most of the input materials, even the vials, are of imported origin. It is obvious, that if the input items are not supplied, Serum Institute of India gets crippled. more

For the last 7 years, our illiterate prime minister spat venom against Sharad Pawar and Congress. Serum Institute is a private company owned by Poonawala ( a Congress MP) and Sharad Pawar. Time for Modi to get on his knees and beg for these vaccines. more
