Vehicle Nos. on Way Bills
In the new way bill system, it is mandatory to mention the vehicle No., otherwise the way bill will not get issued.
This is not logical because the consignor or consignee does not know the vehicle No. in advance, particularly when it comes to part loads. The goods are delivered to the transporter's warehouse and depending on the load booked during the day, the transporter arranges trucks during evening or night in places like Bhiwandi, which is the logistics hub in Maharashtra.
In this situation, how is the consignor or consignee expected to know the vehicle No. in advance ? The truck No. is not mentioned even on most of the LR's.
The government has to be practical and not insist on the vehicle No. to be mentioned on the individual way bills issued to the consignor or consignee. Alternatively, the field for mentioning vehicle No. should be left for the transporter to fill in each way bill as only they have this information.
Hope the government comes up with a solution for this problem because currently the consignors and consignees mention arbitrary vehicle Nos. to issue the way bill, which opens them up to penal action and also open doors to corruption by government inspectors. more
