Wait List System should be removed

I am fed up of the wait list system when I have to wait until the last day to check if I am able to board the train. Even if I book my ticket in advance (for example a couple of months), I hardly get a confirmed ticket. I am not sure how early everyone books their train tickets. Many of these tickets are sold out to agents, kept for tatkal, etc., and citizens need to pay more to travel by train. Also, the number of trains are limited. We need more trains and the wait list system should be removed. Everyone, who books a train ticket and pays for it, is entitled to travel by train. In other countries, people buy train tickets just before departing and travel without any hassle. Certainly not the case in India. Something needs to be done about getting confirmed train tickets for all the passengers, who have booked their travel in advance. And also, more new trains should be introduced as the trains that we are travelling by presently are many years old. more

I booked three tickets on irctc online. Though there was waiting status showing but as we booked the ticket it was a confirm ticket and birth allotted. This new system of updating vacant position as current availability is a very positive step the railways has introduced. With this system one can book ticket in running train also. Now current availability is also available at Railyatri app. more
They should remove VIP quota or at least reduce this, nowadays all trains having tatkal facility of ac coaches 15 berths are kept out for tatkal booking/coach -so you never get tkt confirmation ,but tatkal is available almost all trains -and tatkal brings more profit to railways more
If Wait List system cannot be removed, then there should a limit to the number to which the Wait List could be applied. For e.g. Wait List tickets should end at 30 for each train and no more than that. Alternatively, the booking of advanced tickets should be limited to a couple of months i.e. for booking a ticket in April 2017, a passenger can book the ticket only until June 2017 and not beyond that. A lot of hassle is caused by people, who book their tickets way in advance and cancel it for very less cancellation fees. The cancellation fees should also be increased. This will enable the Wait List numbers to be reduced. A passenger will only book his or her ticket when he has confirmed his travel because of the high cancellation fees. This will increase the number of Tatkal tickets and allow passengers to book their tickets at the last minute in case of an urgency. more
It cannot be removed, as railway cannot determine how many of booked passengers shall show up. It becomes their responsibility to offer cancelled seats to needy. Hence the philosophy. However, there is flaw in existing reservation system. There is no report of trends in success rate of confirmation of waitlisted passengers. Some analytics should be applied to display probability of getting confirmed tickets. This shall be helpful. As system does not consider ratio of total number of seats to waitlist number. There is possibility that a passenger may book WL2 in half AC-2, which has possible 10-12 general quota seat. If someone books for family. It is not likely to get even RAC. more
This post needs to be read by all the Indian citizens, who are facing issues with booking of train tickets that are under waiting list. We all need to make the Railways Department to come up with better rules for getting confirmed train tickets and removing the old wait list system at the earliest. more
