These are most certainly things that we should be aspiring to but we have a long way to go. Each year as per the Municipal Solid Waste Rules 2000, a form has to be submitted by the Municipalities to the Ministry of Environment and Forests regarding the waste management system of the city/town. This includes how much waste is generated, how much is collected, how much is being composted, is the landfill being covered every day etc. The rules state that recycling is mandatory but the form that is to be submitted does not even mention recycling. Amendments are currently being made to this very important piece of legislation and we can only hope that segregation at source and recycling will be made top priorities. The weigh bridge at the Dehradun dumpsite has been out of use for over a year so how does our Municipality even come up with figures for this report? Is any of the data checked by the MoEF or is it just accepted as correct. Improving then enforcing the Municipal Solid Waste Rules 2000 is the most important step that Mr Modi needs to take if he genuinely wants India to be clean. more
There are certain items which will depend on type of housing complex. more
What is more important is to create awareness on a massive scale . There should be fines for anyone crossing the line. more
Vermipits are not possible in Apartment complexes. We are not disciplined to achieve 100% of any parameter. Is any city in India is doing 100% of recycling solid waste?Segregation at source and collection of segregated MSW is not being done in any Indian city.Let us be practical. We aim at 100% and achieve 10%. more
