Effective Waste Water Management: Citizen Solutions

1. Implementation of the water management policies already existing in Environment & Building Byelaws should be done
2. Dumping of untreated waste water directly into water bodies should be made a prosecutable offence
3. It should be made mandatory for all upcoming housing projects to set up waste water treatment plants
4. Hotels and restaurants should be instructed to treat their waste water before releasing it into drains
5. If they are found disobeying the orders, their licenses should be cancelled
6. For constructions, gardening, agriculture etc., the treated water should be encouraged to be used & to be supplied at reasonable price
7. Technology should be used to make waste water potable
8. Government should subsidise waste water treatment plants and make them available at a low cost
9. Waste water in large residential complexes and large factories should be recycled, purified to be used for flushing toilets and watering plants
10. Membrane filtration should be adopted to filter the waste water which can then be used in industries
11. Municipality should take special steps to recycle waste water
12. All waste water could be funneled into gobar gas plants. The gases emitted should be trapped and used to generate electricity more

Fines for polluting the public places should be strict and the pollution control board as well as municipalities/ corporations to be empowered to penalize them. It should in the form of sealing the premises or factories till it is rectified instead of the fines imposed now. Fines provide them an escape route and also leads to corruption. Public should raise up to the situation and escalate the issues through social media and other methods more
Ministry of Urban Dev needs to engage municipal ppl in this circle more
A lot has been said and written so far but what is the result. There is very little change in the situation after 2.5 years of Swachch Bharat Mission came into being. In fact the concerned authorities primarily responsible to implement various schemes & in flowing suggestions are really not interested in bringing improvement in the areas of public interests, rather, their interest is pointed towards only one point programme as to how to make money as there is no end of their hunger for money. more
Actually there's no acute implementation of policies as laid out. Nobody even care, neither the government officials neither the people. Awareness as well as commitment from both end is needed to achieve the same. Policies and regulations need to be little stricter. Controlling and monitoring system has to be devised and amended as and when required to meet the future challenges. All have to subside the short term monetary benefits and look for the future betterment in the interest of ourselves only.... more
I agree with Mr. Yogesh Chandna and Mr. Ranbir Sinha on their comment regarding controlling and enforcing on perpetrators. The dumping of garbage and construction waste even on high ways and road sides is rampant and there is no policing or control. Any amount of enforcement will not solve the problem 100% but the change in the people mind set and approach to environment will. And now in India there is no system in place for collection of construction waste or garbage. There should be an emergency single point contact for disposal of construction waste and garbage, which should be pooled and used constructively. more
