Water bottle sold in more than MRP
Yesterday I visited Little Italy restaurant in Pune. They charged Rs 55 for a bottle of water when the MRP was Rs 20. Also they charged mandatory 8% Service Charge. Also upon all these amount (Price of Food, Water and Service Charge) they charged 5.6% Service Tax and 13.5% Vat.
Is this a correct practice? As per my information they cannot charge anything more than MRP and Service Charge can not be mandatory. Also VAT and Service tax both can not be applied on same product.
Please guide me where I can register my complaint. more

1. New York City has already changed over to unbottled, safe, potable, drinking water. Others are following suit. 2. Bengaluru Municipal Corporation has already enacted a law very recently for mandatory provision of safe drinking water free of cost for all hotels including five star hotels. It is high time, that we revert back to to free, but safe drinking water. The concept of packaged drinking water is causing ecological problems the world over. more

Why then did we at local circles keep discussing this issue if the point was of ambience???? MRP is MRP wherever you are. Secondly can VAT and service tax be charged together. The consumer ministry has openly put it in the paper that service charge is not mandatory and it is voluntary. SO WHO DO WE COMPLAIN TO? CAN THE LOCAL CIRCLES MANAGER PLEASE LET US KNOW more

This subject has come up for discussion several times earlier too. Folks, let's not overlook that some facilities have higher overhead costs than others. This basically is the reason for different prices of a product in different facilities. For example, a so-called 5*-hotel may charge you even Rs. 200 for the same water bottle whereas a fine-dining restaurant may want only Rs.120 and the dhaba may even be happy with Rs.40. We also do not question chicken-tikka costing Rs.850/350/150 in the very same facilities respectively. The same applies for a bottle of beer or a glass of wine. As comparison, let's consider the following example: With our daily vegetable vendor who sincerely knocks at your door every morning, you haggle the price of, say, Rs. 20/pao down to Rs.15/pao and return home triumphant. However, you invite your family to a fine-dining restaurant, the bill for six persons including drinks and desserts amounts to, say Rs.2350. You pay the man Rs.2500 and tell him to keep the change as tip. Has not your "feel-good" feeling also different price in different situations? Pause and Think !! more
