Water conservation
You are right regarding wastage of water.I am into Environmental Management Systems .We focus on Recycling of water in which Israel Has 85% recycled water.Car Cleaning,horticulure,mopping,construction activities can all be carried out with recycled water.Persons responsible for water management should have checkpoints to ensure no water leakages.
It is not only residential colonies but industry can play a major role in water conservation which lot of industries are trying to adhere as part of the environmental management system.QUALITY OF RECYCLED WATER HAS TO BE ENSURED .
The next war will be on WATER presumably.With drought conditions in major areas in India,connecting of Rivers can be a solution to the drought conditions. Debashish Chakraborty more

Mr Sachdeva,there is something I have always done in summers.Very late at night or very early in the morning,I store cool water in drums in the bathrooms for mixing with hot tapwater.So no need to waste. more

Debashish,some days ago,The Hindu,the newspaper carried an article which didnt exactly sing hossanas about interlinking of rivers.I have myself for years(though a non-specialist) always thought a national water grid is a tremendous idea.Nitya Jacob has written a lovely book on water conservation.Everyone should read it.And this is not a promotion more

As I had written in my earlier post for another similar issue raised by some one else today, first let each one of us discipline ourselves and take a pledge " WE WILL NOT WASTE WATER AND CONSERVE WATER" . Please start using water judiciously yourself for your daily habits of brushing teeth, shaving, taking bath etc. and then teach others. more

Gurgaon is a city of high rises, but there is no way to close the water in your flat for repairs, the plumbers have learnt to work with water running, how much of water we waste in this, more than the cost of a valve. Further the Water tanks are on the roof, all pipiing is open and exposed to sun. The water in the tap is very hot during the day so you let it run till the hot water is drained and you get reasonably cool water to wash, or take a bath. How much will it cost to insulate the pipes or locate them on the shady side of the building? Mind set change is required for all of us, my estimate another 100 years by which time the nature in its brutal ways will solve the problem. more

Good idea. We in Heritage city Gurgaon , an older colony, have installed a sewage treatment plant which recycles water for our horticulture needs fully, though we are not required to install such a plant. newer colonies in Gurgaon are required by law ot install recycling plant and piping for toilette use of such recycled treated water. Still overall we waste much water and need metering and information gathering so people know how much water they use. more
