Water Management.
My Dear Countrymen:
There was a project to link all our major rivers so that no place in our Great Country suffer from flood or drought. Why are our Politicians not doing this? I fail to understand? Can we all take up this issue please?

As a practising geologist I state as below Broadly there are three subjects involved. 1. The engineering aspect to ensure that water reaches its intended target places and the flow conduit or channel withstand the flow impact elements and regional structural incosistancies 2. Hydro geological elements to see altered parameters of drawal source, conveyance and discharge to ensure they are within tolerance threshold of basin dynamics 3. Micro and macro impact on aquatic and riverine ecology and environment due to reduced flow at the source, spiked flow in open conveyance and release basin These are highly technical areas that require expertise. I simplify for common reader with few examples. Suppose we draw water from Ganges by open canal to be released to Cauvery basin. The flow pressure at mouth of Ganges changes causing sedimentation to form Sunderbans delta an environmentally protected land. When large volume of water is diverted outflow is reduced at this marine interface. How does this land/ sea interface react? How do fish and aquatic life react? In the canal percolation happen bringing groundwater up. If it reach soil zone and molybdenum gets discharged skeletal deformities of such water users result. So how much water to be released to prevent this? When the alkaline Ganges waters are released to acidic Cauvery basin what micro and macro impact result? How do the basin dynamics react to increased flow? It is a vast field requiring prolonged study of flood and draught study and not an over the counter remedy without evaluating pros and cons. Cash flow and returns/ damage is another field. So get data first more

Of course it was Vajpayee ji who started it but connecting Capitals of India through roads was also his project. That is well taken up by the succeeding government. Can't understand why Water Ways connection was not initiated. Otherwise the water problem could have lessened by now. Hope Nitin Gadkari an able minister with 4 1/2 stars given by media would do something in the near future. more

We must start interstate river connectivity as it was long back proposed by one Mr Rao of Planning commission , and later taken up by earlier NDA Govt by Minister of Water resources Mr Prabhu at that time in Mr Bajpai ministry. That time the Cost estimate for joining all major rivers like Bhrahmaputra- Ganga- Sutlez-Tapi-Godavari-Krishna-Cauvery, etc was ~Rs 25 Lac Crore, but it could solve all our Flood & Dr-aught problems, apart from employment generation , agriculture development, internal transposition ,etc pays for itself , if properly implemented at any time with Political will and deployment of monetary fund through auctioning of natural resources and including NAREGA fund which generates rural/village-side employment opportunity and utilizing latest construction technology,available within India - Make in India effort with prosperity of Whole NATION --- more

Yes we in real must form a movement to help our ailing Former PM Vajpayee but how we in local circles are only posting our comments how to organise an mass gathering ? Is very shamefull in nation that people after doing femaile infanticide or illeagle abortion of girls we as an comunity fight for girls during marrage.Then we also cut trees for various developmental works have less monsoon rain because of el nino directly responcible by USA then we start fight for water after it becomes scarce .Yes i totally aprove a mass movement for the cause of ecology & environment . we in India do require an movement like united movement we had for brave daughter of India Nirbhaya. We need to protect our Mother Nature . more
