Dear all:

As discussed earlier, water supply is critical to the smooth functioning of toilets (both private and public)

Below are the Key Issues in Water Supply as identified by you.

Kindly review them, add if anything missing. Otherwise, help us identify Root Causes for these Issues.

Once we have the Root Causes, we will discuss solutions through a separate post with the objective of putting together a whitepaper for Senior Leadership in the Ministry and other civic agencies who are associated with this subject.

We look forward to your inputs!

All leaking pipes can be repaired instantly with a DurAlloy paste(www.enecon.com). Waste water can be recycled with a small machine ( I think from UK) and sludge separated. Ask for details. more
1. If anyone recalls the history, the deeds are Good kings are described as they planted trees and water storage tanks are built / created. 2. Today all such things are being destroyed in the name of development by the real estate promoters with the connivance of politicians and bureaucrats. 3. When multistory buildings are approved, no one bothers to develop the other infrastructure like water and sewage. 4. Pass legislation to build any thing on the water bodies, and improve the drainage and water facility before giving permission for real estate developments. 5.If water bodies are restored and improved there will not be problem for water. 6.All water consumption shall be metered. 7.Use of water at public toilets shall be monitored. more
Myilvaganan ( Chennai ) - Quite often I find water leaking from most of the public taps. It should be the responsibility of the local Corporation / Panchayat Office to ensure that water is not wasted through public taps. Wherever not in force, supply should be regulated through restricted timings, which is prominently displayed more
The root cause I feel is that many lakes have been killed by powerful land mafia in connection with corrupt officials. The natural water supply to the lakes is first cut off and then it is used for dumping garbage and landfill. The underground water table falls and rain water goes into storm water drains or into basements. This is only the beginning of slow poisoning of underground water source. International studies show that by 2024 underground water in Bengaluru will be unfit for human consumption. We have to restore lakes and stop further killing of lakes to survive as we do not have rivers and rainfall is scarce. At the State level to conserve water, we need to rejuvinate major lakes and interlink lakes. BBMP should identify lakes and earmark land as revenue so that it cannot be exploited further. more
