Watranty standards for appliances
Are there any warranty standards for appliances in India? See attached from a company like Philips. Based on what they have as exclusions listed, they can pretty much say no to any warranty claim. Can the standards maker like bis develop standards here that will help people rather than companies? more

Forget about warranty standards. Basically the home appliances which are manufactured by various companies do not stamp the IS with reference to which it is manufactured. If we inquire with them by providing details; there is no reply from their end. This has happened about pressure cooker - {Prestige make pressure cooker, Pressure pan from Aditya Biral, Automatic Electric Iron. .... LED Bulbs are provided with IS code to which they are manufactured but they do not perform service as per mentioned in the IS i.e. minimum 30000 hours or max. 50000 hours. But the warranty lapses due to duration. So many malpractices are going on but nobody have time to look into. Customer is a foolish person and anybody can fool him / her that is the way no a days understood by sellers. 50% off, buy 2 two and pay for one; such advertises gloom's the customer. Price of bigger size toothpaste is high rather than small size tooth paste, Increasing diameter of tooth paste outlet hole for automatic more consumption and there by to achieve more sell ............ So many are they. Who THINKS about this? All are corrupted, their mouths are shut off and hence nobody speaks up among the Authorities. Great India. My India. Mera Bharat Mahan. more

वस्तुतः ग्राहक या उपभोक्ता के हित का ध्यान न तो सरकार की प्राथमिकता है न हो उत्पादक का - व्यापारी या उत्पादक के हित की चिंता सरकार करती थी/है पर उपभोक्ता की चिंता दिखाती है । विदेश विशेषकर US मे हर फुटकर दुकान पर लिखा होता है -वस्तु वापसी आपका अधिकार है यदि आप संतुष्ट नहीं- पर यहाँ यदि कोई ग्राहक वस्तु वापसी के लिए दुकान पर जाता है है तो दुकानदार ऐसा चेहरा बनाता है जैसे आप उसकी किडनी मांग रहे हो ? more

Most of the consumer durable and electronic goods are based on chips, which can malfunction at any time and alternatively, the demand for consumer goods have increased so much that the manufactures have started discounting the warranty on their products and still the products are selling. BIS has an important role to play and they should stick to the basics. more

Subject matter does not comes in the purview of BIS. Consumer ministry has to look into this, perhaps they have no time to address such things. more
