We are facing power shortage problem, & struggling to overcome this problem. Since the conventional energy sources are limited, & also harmful to environment, we are encouraging other renewable energy sources, & SOLAR Energy is one of the solutions, available in our country. Power generation based on solar energy needs lot of space having intense SUN SHINE.
Power requirement of railway is 1650 MW. As per data ref:- Ministry of statistics & programme implementation, statistical book India 2014 table 16.10- 2 . Indian Railway has length of about 64500 route km. Considering 3 meter. Width on both sides of track, the available area is 87000 acers. Area required for generation of power based on solar energy is 6.5 acers per MW. . Only half of the total area may be useful for solar power generation, & with this available area 6500 MW. Power can be generated. Indian railway can fullfill own power need, & supply surplus power to other utilities. Land acquisition is a difficult task; many projects are delayed due to this reason. Incidentally Indian Railway has got land already acquired, & can be used for power generation based on solar energy. more

Roof portion of rail coaches and station could be good idea, at least for meeting energy/electricity need of the platforms. But problem in PV cell is that its solar panel accumulate dust/calcium layer in a months time. Later its efficiency is reduced and later it becomes junk. So in stead of propagating it as 'maintenance free', reasonable measure/amount of maintenance should also be proposed/provided for. more
First thing first. It is cumbersome to type ID n pass word every time to login. Many may skip instead. pl do something to eliminate this. more
Not just that, all platforms of all stations across the country can have PV cells for generation of electricity. A platform is generally about 700m long, and big stations like New Delhi with 16 platforms can generate enough electricity to fulfill their own needs. Power requirement of Railways is bound to go up in the future with more and more electric locomotives joining the fleet, and platform roof-top solar power can be a real game changer not just for Railways, but for the rest of the country too more
outsourcing 100% with administrative control and accountability take the manager to task immediately 100 FDI also will help but only with local as employess under strict working rules Develop outside stations as secure parking lots like airports nd waiting areas should be different and not on plat forms platforms only for the passengers for that time local trains strict que system maintained by security staff Ticketing automatic and quite far away entrances into station via escalators both horizontal and vertical so that entry will be regulated Exit pathways to be different even in local trains more
Hello, instead of utilising the land portion, we can use the coaches top portion which is empty for installing solar panels and generate power through that resource. We would be utilising un utilized space as well generating power also.... Let us think in those lines. I have already suggested and willing to produce a detailed report also. more
