Welcome to Make Indian Railways Better circle!
Dear Friends,
Upon many requests from our Transform India circle members, we are pleased to share that we are starting this circle with the objective of making Indian Railways better.
It enables all citizens to bring up issues and ideas that will make Indian Railways efficient, cleaner, safer and better.
Consolidated inputs from this circle will be submitted to the Railway Minister and Minister of State for Railways on a regular basis.
So, join in and help Make Indian Railways Better!

Being connected with Indian railways for more then 40 years, and travelled in many states in India, I feel that the basic facilities should be improved by way of cleanliness and punctuality. Simple hygenic food should be easily available, at all stations, with SM responsible, for each station. Only passengers should be allowed into the stations. Platform ticket should be made compulsory and should be hiked, with time stamp. Beggers and unwanted persons should be removed from the Railway premisis. Unlicenced hawkers also should be discouraged. Fines and penalties should be hefty.

India needs higher speed trains as higher speeds mean more trains per day per route and therefore better utilization of rail capacity. But there are some fundamental issues like safety & hygiene which needs to be addressed before we can go high speed & high tech. Derailments & train collisions are commonplace now due to the sheer negligence of rail authorities. Eg: The GPS based anti collision device (Rail raksha kavach) developed by Konkan Railways. If that is implemented all over India, train collisions can become a thing of the past. Also level crossings and the practice of people crossing over tracks to the next platform are incompatible with high speed trains. Similarly it is high time that we introduce chemical / bio toilets and discontinue the archaic practice of flushing out on to the tracks, making our rail tracks the "world's longest toilet" !
